Denver Fire Local 858 was represented well at the annual American association meeting Notable individuals involved include IAFF 12th District DVP Walt Dix, who plays a critical leadership role in representing firefighters across the district; IAFF 9th District Burn Fund Coordinator Joe Brooks, who focuses on burn prevention, education, and survivor support programs; and Denver Fire Fighters Charitable Foundation President Trent Headley, who leads efforts to provide financial assistance and community-based support through charitable initiatives.
These efforts are closely aligned with the mission and discussions of the American Burn Association Annual Meeting, a nationally recognized event that convenes experts, medical professionals, and fire service leaders to advance burn care and recovery.
Key focus areas include firefighter burn injuries, with an emphasis on prevention, response, and long-term recovery; disaster assistance programs that provide immediate and sustained aid to affected firefighters and communities; and continued advancements in burn care and treatment, improving survival rates and quality of life for patients.
Additional areas of impact include burn camps, which offer rehabilitation and emotional support for burn survivors—especially children—by fostering confidence and community; Firefighter Burn Survival Week, which raises awareness about the realities of burn injuries and highlights survivor stories; and the important role of foundations in funding recovery programs, supporting families, and sustaining long-term care initiatives.
Together, these leaders, organizations, and focus areas represent a unified commitment to firefighter safety, burn prevention, survivor support, and community resilience.
