They did it! ✨ Town of Silver Cliff, Colorado, a small town in the Wet Mountain Valley of south-central Colorado, celebrated the long-awaited opening of its revitalized community park.

Built in 1987, the park has long been a place for outdoor activity and community connection. But it needed upgrades to improve accessibility and reflect the priorities of today’s residents.

Designed in partnership with the community, it now has something for everyone: a new ADA-accessible playground and sand volleyball court, with a brand-new, four-court pickleball facility coming soon to serve Silver Cliff’s fast-growing pickleball community.

We couldn’t be happier to see their vision come to life. 🏐🛝

Baker’s Park is getting bigger. 🚵‍♀️

Work is underway on Phase 2 of this trail system near Silverton, adding nearly 10 miles of new trails for hikers, runners, and mountain bikers of all abilities.

Phase 1 delivered a 7-mile beginner-to-intermediate loop that’s been a big hit, welcoming nearly 4,000 users in its first season.

When complete, Baker’s Park will offer 30 miles of trail right outside Silverton’s doorstep, giving residents and visitors even more opportunities to experience the dramatic San Juan Mountains.

🤝 A massive team effort led by Silverton Singletrack Society, in partnership with San Juan County and Bureau of Land Management - Colorado. Proudly supported by GOCO alongside Colorado Parks and Wildlife, Foundation for America's Public Lands, and many community partners.

Hbd, Colorado! 🎈On Saturday, GOCO and friends joined Coloradans across the state for a simultaneous ascent up the state's 14,000-foot mountains to celebrate Colorado's 150th and America's 250th anniversaries.

Their chosen challenge: Grays Peak. It's Colorado's highest point on the Continental Divide, the state's second-highest peak at 14,278 feet, and a ~7.5-mile hike round trip.

Whether you're climbing a 14er, exploring your local park or trail, or simply spending time outside, it's easy to see why Colorado's outdoors are worth protecting and caring for.

Here's to the places that bring us together. 💚

🌾 1,018 acres on Colorado Springs' east side are now protected forever.

Thanks to the leadership of Palmer Land Conservancy, in partnership with the City of Colorado Springs and GOCO, Wild Horse Ranch's shortgrass prairie, wetlands, and wildlife habitat will continue to benefit people and wildlife for generations to come.

More than a century of mining and cattle operations shaped the landscape, with coal extraction beginning in the 1880s and continuing into the 1960s. After mining ended, native grasses, pronghorn, and migratory birds gradually returned, transforming the land into a recovering prairie and wetland ecosystem.

The work doesn't stop here. Partners will now begin master planning, exploring future close-to-home recreation opportunities for the area's growing community, and ways to share the property's rich natural and cultural history.

🌿 More room to roam is coming to Steamboat Springs.

City of Steamboat Springs - Government has permanently protected 131 acres of the 188-acre Slate Creek property, located on the west side of Steamboat Springs along the Yampa River corridor. The conservation easement preserves the land as open space while creating opportunities for future hiking, biking, wildlife viewing, and other recreation.

GOCO was proud to invest more than $1.4 million alongside local, state, and philanthropic partners to help make this long-planned vision a reality.

🙌 All in for the Valley.

GOCO staff and board members were honored to join Adams State University, San Luis Valley Great Outdoors, local leaders, conservation partners, recreation advocates, and community members for the San Luis Valley Conservation & Outdoor Legacy Gathering to celebrate decades of collaborative conservation and imagine what's next for the region.

As the Valley faces interconnected challenges to natural resources, agriculture, and local economies, the gathering focused on building on the region's strong partnerships to identify transformative projects that will shape its future for generations.

Hosted at the ranch of former Secretary of the Interior and U.S. Ambassador Ken Salazar, the event also included a tour of the historic, recently renovated Lobatos Bridge on the Rio Grande, where Salazar shared his deep connections to the Valley and its irreplaceable lands, waters, and cultural heritage.

We left feeling proud, hopeful, and ready to keep the impact going, together. Let's do this, Colorado! 💪

Now open! 🥾 The 681-acre Lost Canyon Ranch Open Space, just outside Castle Rock.

It's got 10 miles of trails, from an easy walk near the trailhead to moderate and more challenging hikes, and views of grasslands, forests, canyon cliffs, and striking rock formations.

Know before you go:
• Open daily from 5:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. through Aug. 31
• No pets, sorry, furry friends!
• Portable restrooms are available at both trailheads
• Cell service is limited, so save the trail map
• Bring plenty of water—there's no drinking water on site

🌾💛 On June 6, Colorado celebrated its first-ever Prairie Day, recognizing the vital role native grasslands play in sustaining wildlife, supporting working ranches, and strengthening rural communities.

With nearly half of Colorado’s native grasslands already lost, it’s also a reminder of what’s at stake and what outdoor partners are working hard to protect.

In celebration, the Eastern Colorado Grasslands Coalition (ECGC) and partners welcomed 75 riders to its Shrikes & Bikes event in Genoa, where cyclists explored the shortgrass prairie of Lincoln County by gravel bike—gaining a deeper appreciation for the communities, lands, wildlife, agriculture, and history of eastern Colorado.

Regional partnerships like the ECGC are helping turn the vision of Colorado’s Outdoors Strategy into action, bringing people together to protect and care for the outdoor treasures that make every corner of our state unique.

We join communities across the United States in honoring the three firefighters who lost their lives and the two who were injured while protecting people and landscapes in western Colorado.

Our hearts are with their families, friends, fellow firefighters, and everyone impacted by this tragedy. We're deeply grateful for the courage of wildland firefighters who protect our outdoors and communities.
