Colorado's semi-arid climate, withdrawal of water for municipal and agricultural uses, and a complex water allocation system all contribute to rivers with very low streamflow -- or no streamflow at all. This strands and exposes fish, damages riparian habitat, and affects the recreational businesses that rely on streamflows. The Colorado Water Trust works within Colorado's water allocation system to return real, measurable water to our rivers and streams in need. We work collaboratively with water rights owners across the state to find win-win solutions that support both people and the environment.

We are super proud of our field tech, Briana Galland! 👩‍🔬 Briana is a student at Colorado Mesa University studying the impacts of beaver ponds on surface water detention, helping answer questions critical to our work at Colorado Water Trust. 💦 She also helps us monitor and maintain our temporary streamflow gauges. We are so lucky to have had Sidney Stadelmann as our Development & Engagement Intern this summer! Read her reflections on her time with Colorado Water Trust in our most recent blog post, including four things she'll carry with her:

1. This work can't be done alone.
2. Leaving water in rivers is hard.
3. Everyone has their own connections to rivers and water.
4. Sometimes the first step is simply asking.

"As a young person, I truthfully find myself fearful about how things will be in 10, 15, or 20 years. That being said, hope is not lost. Working for Colorado Water Trust this summer has given me so much hope and solace knowing that there are people who have dedicated their lives to protecting and restoring our rivers. I have seen first hand the impact this work has on communities across the state, and I am reminded that even when things feel daunting, there are so many people that care."

Thank you, Sid, for all of your contributions to our team this summer!
