Having FOMO because you missed the start of our new session last night?! Well great news - it’s not too late to join!

Let’s take a listen to another one of our Shake Through the Decades - 8 Week Session! songs! We’re celebrating the 2000’s with “Shake It” by American pop rock band, Metro Station!

Listen here:
https://youtu.be/_wjFahULCK8

In peak-2000s fashion, Mason Musso (singer/songwriter) and Trace Cyrus (guitarist/singer) met on the Hannah Montana set (thanks to their famous siblings), bonded over music, and started the band, Metro Station. They pulled in Blake Healy (keyboard/synth/bass), dropped “Seventeen Forever” on MySpace, and bam - they became MySpace famous (how 2000s of them).

“Shake It” was the band’s first charting single, peaking at number 10 on the US Billboard Hot 100. Nick Levine of “Digital Spy” said, “the chorus [of the song] is big, chanty and as easy to resist as a Krispy Kreme donut being dangled down on a rope in front of your PC.” Get ready to shake shake shake shake shake it with Skye as we Shake Through the Decades with you!

The Five Du-Tones were an American soul vocal group, who enjoyed success in the dance craze era of the early 1960s. The group’s third release in 1963 finally got them noticed: “Shake a Tail Feather” (co-written by Andre Williams and Otha Hayes) was played on R&B stations across the country. “Shake a Tail Feather” was covered by Ike & Tina Turner in 1969, Ray Charles together with the Blues Brothers, and featured in a prominent choreography scene in The Blues Brothers (1980). It was also featured on the soundtrack of the 1988 film, Hairspray.

The song “Shake Your Tail Feather” is an upbeat and soulful song that references a number of dance styles, including The Twist, The Bird, The Monkey, the Mashed Potato, and The Swim. TOMORROW we’re kicking off our next session in the 1920s!

Let’s take a listen to one of our Shake Through the Decades - 8 Week Session!songs! We’re celebrating the 1920’s with “Shake That Thing”, which was written in 1925 and released on the B-side of Papa Charlie Jackson’s album “Faking the Blues!”

Listen here:
https://youtu.be/doG-ADIEeN4

The version we’ll be dancing to in this session was recorded by Abe Lyman and His California Orchestra. The phrase “Shake That Thing” was a euphemism for dancing (and possibly other activities). We will be wearing our soft, subtle & subdued yellow flapper dresses, pictured here 🤪💛 (shoutout 2020)! Choreographer Delilah Williams will have us flappin’ and shakin’ away!

Let’s take a listen to one of our Shake Through the Decades - 8 Week VIDEO Session! songs! We’re celebrating the 1940s with “Shake Down the Stars,” composed by Jimmy Van Heusen with lyrics by Eddie De Lange, sung by a young, 23 year old Ella Fitzgerald in 1940.

Listen here:
https://youtu.be/qR23u1N7n1g

Ella Jane Fitzgerald, pictured below, was an American jazz singer, sometimes referred to as the “First Lady of Song”, “Queen of Jazz”, and “Lady Ella”. She was noted for her purity of tone, impeccable diction, phrasing, timing, intonation, and a “horn-like” improvisational ability, particularly in her s**t singing.

The song “Shake Down the Stars” is a moody, romantic ballad written during the Big Band era. Choreographer Lark Mervine will take us into a dreamy dance trance to celebrate the 1940s as we Shake Through the Decades!
