The Center shares in the grief of the Kutner family and the wider Denver community for the loss of Cantor Zachary Kutner (z”l). Born in Poland in 1925, Cantor Kutner survived N**i labor, concentration, and death camps, including Auschwitz and Dachau. He was the sole survivor of his family. After the war, Cantor Kutner languished in a displaced persons camp until arriving in the U.S. in 1950. In Denver, Kutner became a successful businessman and later served as beloved cantor at several local synagogues. Anyone who had the privilege of hearing him lead prayers on the high holidays experienced one of the last links to a haunting prewar Yiddishkeit. Cantor Kutner continued to lead services until his late 90s. His legacy of learning, charity, and ahavat Yisrael live on. A husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, Cantor Kutner delighted in his ever expanding family. We thank his family for designating the Center’s Holocaust Awareness Institute for memorial gifts. May his memory be a blessing.
