As we say “Hello!” to summer and wave the 2025-26 school year adieu, we want to reflect on what makes school valuable to children. Learning to read, write, and do math is essential and incredibly rewarding, but let’s not forget how vital our interactions with our friends, teachers, and the world around us shape our education. Forging relationships is a strong value we hold dear and incorporate into our practices at all levels! We look forward to a fun summer camp season ahead— with a few weeks still available for any last-minute enrollment! ☀️

For many, children building and lighting fires seems “too risky.” At Worldmind, our students are encouraged to take educated risks in order to learn essential life skills! It is truly amazing to see how responsible and skilled these young people become when guided to asses and take risks that lead to exceptional learning! 🔥🪵🫶

🌸Spring has sprung, and it’s time to smell the flowers!🌸

Being a nature-based program, we at Worldmind get to see the seasons change over time and make real-world observations to guide our learning. Spring time is a uniquely beautiful time for this kind of learning— we can watch the incredible Colorado flora grow from barren and dead to a variety of blooms, and every thing in between!

Learning doesn’t just happen in a classroom. Sometimes it happens deep in a canyon, under a sky full of stars, or standing beneath a towering arch carved by time.

This week some of our students traveled to Utah to experience some of the most incredible natural wonders in the country as part of our real-world curriculum.

At Goblin Valley, we hiked through a slot canyon and learned how these narrow passages are slowly carved by water and time. We explored the famous goblin-shaped rock formations and talked about the geologic processes that create such unusual landscapes. That night, in one of the darkest skies in the country, we gathered together to observe the stars and experience just how vast and quiet the night sky can be.

The adventure continued with a cave exploration and then on to Moab and Arches National Park, where we camped along the Colorado River and hiked to several incredible arches, including the iconic Delicate Arch.

Trips like these build far more than knowledge of science and geology. They build resilience, curiosity, teamwork, and deep social bonds. They challenge students physically and mentally while creating memories and lessons that last a lifetime.

This is what learning in the real world looks like.
