Board member Marissa Firstenberg shares key signs your business NEEDS a bookkeeper at today's Networking Luncheon:

- You’re still using Excel. Or you’re using Quickbooks but hate it and think it’s too expensive.
- You have an e-commerce business and don’t understand sales tax.
- You still don’t have your financials from last year.
- You have no idea if your books are accurate.

“Marissa is available all the time. It can be hard to get in touch with your bookkeeper. Marissa is incredibly responsive. She answers her phone and responds quickly to emails. She understands all the ins and outs of bookkeeping.” - Testimonial from Board President Lee Weisbard

The Honorable David Richman spoke to the Denver Jewish Chamber of Commerce last night about Jewish ethics in business. Together, we explored the following Jewish commandment in Leviticus, chapter 25 and what it means for business today: “Each of you shall not aggrieve his fellow.”

According the Talmud, this means we should not aggrieve or oppress. We should not take advantage of competitive advantage (though this is encouraged in our capitalist society today). The Torah probits “ona’a,” which means exploitation or verbal mistreatment.

Some examples of ona’a:
-Price gouging in transaction of goods
-Asking the price of something when you don’t have the desire to buy it, because it can afflict the mental health of the seller when the deal doesn’t materialize.

Finally, we discussed Rabbi Akiva’s reminder to Jewish people that we must not deceive people: it reflects poorly on the Jewish people and on God’s holy name.
