A new study funded by The Water Research Foundation is paving the way for more sustainable and cost-effective potable reuse systems. Project 5129 delivers key insights into ozone and biologically activated carbon (BAC) treatment, offering utilities an alternative to energy-intensive reverse osmosis.

The research introduces an innovative ozone dosing strategy that improves pathogen reduction, lowers energy use, and minimizes byproduct formation. This strategy helps utilities meet public health goals while reducing operational challenges.

This effort, led by Carollo and supported by utilities and research partners across the U.S. and internationally, represents a major step forward in advancing potable reuse technologies.
