This summer, at our camps, we announced changes to our 2027 camp locations. As our Staff shared with many of our campers, it wasn’t an easy decision, but it is the right one for the long-term accessibility and sustainability of our programs.

Starting in 2027, Heritage Camps will bring all of our camps to the Denver metro area. Making it more accessible to all of our families and the cultural communities and experts that support us. We couldn't be more excited about this next chapter!

Right now, our team is actively securing awesome locations, and we'll be sharing dates, venues, and FAQs very soon. We know you have questions, and we're committed to giving you complete, thoughtful answers.

What hasn't changed is what matters most: camp is all about the people!💛

Our HCAF community is made up of so many incredible women, and this month, we’re holding a special place in our hearts for them.

We remember the camp women we’ve lost to breast cancer, whose presence and love remain part of our camp family. We celebrate the camp women who have faced this disease and continue to inspire us with their strength and courage. And we hold close everyone who is fighting, healing, supporting a loved one, or remembering someone they miss.

Our camp community is about more than a week at camp. It’s about the connections we make, the people we love, and the ways we show up for one another through life’s hardest moments and happiest ones.

This October, we honor you, we remember you, and we stand with you.

On Indigenous Peoples Day, we pause to honor the original peoples of the land we call home: Colorado.

At Heritage Camps, this matters deeply. Each camp begins with a land acknowledgment during our opening ceremony, a moment to recognize the people who have cared for this land for generations and to renew our commitment to honoring Indigenous history, culture, and presence.

Adoptees will never not be adopted. Carrying this reality comes with lots of emotions.

All of it is valid. All of it deserves space to be processed, felt, and honored.

We understand that adoptees face an elevated risk for mental health challenges like depression, anxiety, and PTSD due to early separation trauma and identity complexities.

That's why our mission is so important. Creating spaces where adoptees can talk about the hard stuff, discover their identity and connect with others that truly get it and care.

If you or a loved one are struggling and trying to understand identity or loss or joy or confusion that comes with adoption, and don't have to do it alone.

The adoption constellation is getting larger and there are so many resources and people to support or guide you.

Your mental health matters because you matter.

With over 6,500 photos from this camp season, it's really hard to pick just a few. But here's what these photos show: 9 camps, 7 weekends, so many moments of connection, laughs, some tears, and lots of joy supporting adoptees and their families. That's what celebrating community is all about! 💛

The memories made this summer will last a lifetime. And just like adoption, camp never ends. These connections and sense of belonging are a part of our campers forever.

Thank you again to every camper, counselor, volunteer, family member, community partner, and sponsor who made this season possible. You are Heritage Camps!

HCAF Book Club is Back and Continues Featuring Adoptee Voices!📙

We're so excited to announce our next book: I Met Myself in October: A Memoir of Belonging by Jacob Taylor-Mosquera.

Jacob's Story:
Adopted as an infant from Cali, Colombia and raised in the Pacific Northwest, Jacob went looking for his roots twenty years later. He learned Spanish, returned to the orphanage that had cared for him, and eventually sat down on Colombian television to ask—on air—for help finding the mother who had kept his birth a secret from her own family.

He met her on October 26, 2004. The month that gives the book its title.

Because meeting his biological family was, in his words, meeting "an extension of myself."

What makes this book powerful is that Jacob writes honestly about:

🟡Being read as Black in the U.S. and as privileged in Colombia
🟡The grief that sits right beside the joy

Welcome, fall. 🍂

A season of beautiful changes, fresh inspiration and cozy new beginnings.

For us, fall is a time for reflection on an incredible summer and all the changes that we are working hard on. This past summer, 1,400+ campers across 9 heritage-specific programs experienced belonging, identity affirmation, and community. And as Colorado's leaves turn gold and the air gets crisp, we're reminded that change can be beautiful.

Fall also brings new seasons for our campers. New school years. New questions about identity. New moments where support and community feel especially important.

But we know camp never ends and our community lasts all year. The connections our adoptees and their families made this summer—those are real. The identity affirmation they felt is still part of them. The belonging is foundational, not seasonal.

That's why this fall, we're here in new ways. We're re-launching our Book Club featuring adoptee voices. We're hosting webinars for families navigating back-to-school transitions. We're keeping year-round connection alive through resources, virtual events, and spaces where adoptees know they belong.

So as Colorado's leaves turn and we order another pumpkin spice anything this season, we're here. Ready to support families navigating change, remind you that heritage matters, and that you belong.
