Rocky Mountain Arts Association - RMAA

Rocky Mountain Arts Association - RMAA Incorporated in the spring of 1982, the Rocky Mountain Arts Association (RMAA) exists to build community through music.

With a mission of “building community through music”, its member choruses, the Denver Gay Men’s Chorus and the Denver Women’s Chorus, have been entertaining audiences for more than 38 years! RMAA supports the operations of two community choruses: the Denver Women’s Chorus (DWC) and the Denver Gay Men’s Chorus (DGMC). These choruses have joined together as an organization for the purpose of making

an artistic statement: the choruses, as they sing, provide educational, cultural and social enrichment for our audiences and ourselves, and we identify as an organization of gay, le***an, bisexual and transgender (GLBT) people and supporters that is actively making a positive contribution to the entire community. RMAA is a tax-exempt 501(c)(3) organization.

The Rocky Mountain Arts Association (RMAA), the umbrella organization managing the Denver Gay Men's Chorus and Denver Feminist Chorus, opened a search for a new executive director. RMAA Board President Marcus Turner and a hiring committee composed of Board members, Chorus Council members, and singers will lead the search.

Michael Sattler, RMAA’s current Executive Director, will retire in July after serving in the position since 2016. Michael joined the Denver Gay Men’s Chorus in 2012 as a singer and joined the leadership Council soon thereafter.

The ED serves as the chief executive of RMAA and member choruses. Working closely with each chorus’s Artistic Director, the ED provides general oversight of all chorus activities, manages the day-to-day operations, and assures a smoothly functioning, efficient organization.

In his tenure, Michael nearly doubled the chorus’ budget, increased the number of audience members, expanded federal and state government funding as well as the contributions of private foundations, and skillfully led both choruses through COVID, when all performing arts organizations were halted for over a year.

“Michael illustrated a true commitment to our mission: building community through music,” said Turner. “His enthusiasm and dedication to the well-being and success of the organization, the artistic team, singers, and staff is exceptional. He truly will be missed.”

DGMC and DFC, founded in 1982 and 1984 respectively, were founded by gay individuals seeking an outlet for creative expression in a safe, supportive, and affirming environment. Throughout its 40-plus-year history, RMAA has maintained a passionate commitment to the lives and well-being of LGBTQIA individuals. They have a steadfast dedication to fostering understanding and acceptance among diverse communities in the greater Denver area and throughout the Rocky Mountain region.

It with great honor, enthusiasm, and excitement that we announce our 2024-2025 season for the Denver Women's Chorus and Denver Gay Men's Chorus.

Beginning in November and continuing through next spring, both the Denver Women's Chorus and Denver Gay Men's Chorus have remarkable concerts planned that reverberate our key mission, which is to build community through music.

DGMC's 43rd season is entitled A Mile in Our Shoes. Shoes, more than just a functional accessory, hold significant cultural and identifiable ties in our society. Throughout the LGBTQIA+ experience—especially in recent times—shoes have become a powerful symbol of self-expression and affirmation that reflect the diverse paths we tread. From North Pole Brigayde to Crazy 4 You, among others, each concert will take audiences on a mellifluous hike that explores the varied course we have trekked, where together, we will move to the rhythm of our soles.

As you know, it's a high stakes election year, and DWC will kick off their 41st season with Do You Hear the People Sing, advocating for social justice, civic engagement, and collective protest. Continuing to promote social change through music, early next year, the chorus tackles the topic of invisible disabilities in Do Not Despair.

Our Pride month and season finale, Leather and Lace, will see our first full co-chorus collaboration since 2019.

Learn more about our season line at the link below. Today through August 31, you can receive 20 percent off tickets using the code RMAAFY25, guaranteed to be our lowest price this year.
