On October 15, a new cohort of 20 mentees will join 25 of Colorado’s most accomplished and empowering leaders for nine months of growth, candor, and connection.

These small but powerful groups engage in group mentoring, panel discussions, a facilitated Issues Lab and one-on-one time with mentors and dig into the topics that matter most:

Authenticity and vulnerability
Confidence and Self-Advocacy
Negotiation
Conflict Resolution
Managing Transition, Leading through Change and Career Navigation
Feedback, Candor and Communication

Past mentees have earned promotions, negotiated with confidence and built lasting relationships within a powerful network of women. And, as one alum, Lauren Gulley, noted, “This program provided the opportunity to discuss difficult topics about growing as a leader in the workplace and network with so many talented and insightful leaders in the Denver community. I am so grateful for the experience and the connections made during this process.”

Celebrating ATHENA excellence: Meet our 2025 ATHENA Leadership Award recipient, the Honorable Christing M. Arguello

What made her a great award recipient?

Judge Arguello’s journey began in Thatcher, Colorado and led to a lifetime of firsts. She became the first Latina from Colorado to graduate from Harvard Law and the first Hispanic federal district court judge in Colorado.

But what makes her an ATHENA leader isn’t only how far she climbed but how many people she brought with her.

In 2014, she founded LAW SCHOOL…Yes We Can! (LSYWC), a pre-law mentoring program for first-generation and underrepresented college students that has supported more than 160 fellows and 400 mentors. Through the Arguello Dream Team, she brings professionals into K-12 classrooms to inspire thousands of Colorado students to pursue higher education.

This is the heart of the ATHENA Leadership Award: professional experience paired with a commitment to helping women and historically marginalized people reach their full potential.

Thank you, Judge Arguello, for opening doors and holding them open for the next generation. You are an inspiration.

And they’re off…The 2026-2027 Women’s Leadership Lab kicked off last week and the energy in the energy in the room was unmatched!

The Women’s Leadership Lab, facilitated by Tamra Ryan, is designed to help emerging leaders grow their skills, lead in their communities, and deepen their understanding of the issues facing women at work. Over the coming months, this cohort will dig into the four areas that affect women most in the workplace:

Identity
Allyship
Cultural Norms
Advancement & Retention

If this year’s cohort is anything like last year’s, we’re in for bold thought leadership, creative problem-solving, and the kind of honest conversations that spark real change in our workplaces and across Colorado. We can’t wait to watch these leaders challenge assumptions, build lasting connections, and step into their power.

What a WILD evening!

Last week, CWCC Visionary and Elite members gathered with the predators at the Denver Zoo for another unforgettable Top-Tier Networking experience!

Two adult lionesses showed off their prowess and power in a demonstration led by Zoo experts. We also met a beautiful red-tailed hawk and got up close and personal with a snake.

Huge THANK YOU to DZCA Chief Executive Officer, Cristal Torres DeHerrera, Chief Philanthropy Officer, Cadell Walker, and the entire Denver Zoo Conservation Alliance team for opening your doors and sharing the conservation work that makes DZCA one of Colorado’s cultural cornerstones.

Did you know that the Zoo brings in more tourists and visitors than ALL of the Mile High professional sports team combined? What an important economic engine and cultural touchstone for the entire community.

It's October 8, and we're well into Q4.

Think about that for a moment. Take every paycheck from all of 2025, then add Q1, Q2 and Q3 of 2026.

Only today does a Latina working full-time, year-round finally catch up to what a white, non-Hispanic man earned in 2025 alone.

That's 21 months of work for 12 months of pay.

Today is Latina Women's Equal Pay Day. Latinas are paid just 58 cents for every dollar paid to white, non-Hispanic men. When you include part-time and seasonal workers, it drops to 54 cents.

Over a career, that gap adds up to lost savings, lost retirement and lost opportunity for Latinas, their families and Colorado's economy.

At CWCC, we advocate for pay transparency, equitable workplaces and policies that close this gap for good. Because equal pay shouldn't take an extra nine months.
