Thank you to Chris Durrance and Well Beings for continuing to share this important story.

In Rhode Island, adding a caregiving question to a student survey revealed that nearly 41% of students who responded identified as caregivers.

When schools ask the question, they can better identify and support Caregiving Youth. That's why visibility matters.

In 2023, CACY successfully advocated for the inclusion of a caregiving question in the Healthy Kids Colorado Survey, helping bring greater visibility to the experiences of caregiving youth across our state. The data is helping inform awareness, education, and advocacy efforts throughout Colorado.

Because what we recognize, we can support.

We're encouraged to see growing national attention focused on Caregiving Youth.

On Wednesday, June 10, AACY National Advisory Council member Maria Miranda, LMSW, will present a free webinar exploring the realities facing young caregivers in the U.S. and the importance of building systems that recognize and support them.

As more states begin studying the impact of caregiving on students, conversations like these help move the field forward.

❓When you hear the word “caregiver,” who comes to mind⁉

-Many people picture an adult.

-But caregiving can begin much earlier.

A caregiving youth may help with medications, meals, transportation, translation, household responsibilities, emotional support, or caring for younger siblings.

Caregiving youth are students, athletes, artists, leaders, and friends.
They’re also caregivers.

One year after the premiere of Caregiving, the conversation continues.

The documentary has helped bring greater visibility to caregivers across the country, including Caregiving Youth, who have long been part of the caregiving story but too often go unrecognized.

As a national outreach and engagement partner, was proud to help elevate these voices. The film features Jacob, a former Caregiving Youth who cared for both his grandmother with dementia and his mother, Jennifer Gutierrez, who lived with MS.

Jennifer passed away before the film’s release, but her advocacy, compassion, and commitment to Caregiving Youth continue to inspire this work.

No child should carry caregiving alone.

Yet every day, young people across Colorado quietly help care for parents, grandparents, siblings, and loved ones while balancing school, friendships, and the challenges of growing up.

Too often, they do it without recognition or support.

At CACY, we believe caregiving youth deserve to be seen, understood, and connected to the resources and support they need to thrive.

Because no child should have to navigate caregiving alone.

⏳ We’re in the final stretch.
There’s still time to be one of the 65 helping make caregiving youth in Colorado more visible, valued, and supported.

In honor of our founder, Nadine Roberts Cornish’s 65th birthday, we’re inviting 65 people to give $65 each to help uplift caregiving youth and strengthen awareness, advocacy, and support across Colorado.

Every gift matters. Every act of generosity moves this mission forward.

65 People. $650 Each. One Powerful Movement for Colorado’s Caregiving Youth.

My Why.

My Why.

❓ Did You Know ❓

In Colorado, approximately 20.4% of middle school students and 12.5% of high school students report caregiving responsibilities at home.

😲 That means thousands of young people are helping care for parents, grandparents, siblings, and loved ones while balancing school, friendships, and the everyday challenges of growing up.

Many are helping with meals, medications, transportation, emotional support, and daily care.

😥 Yet too often, caregiving youth remain unseen.

At CACY, we are working to change that by building awareness, strengthening partnerships, and helping schools and communities better recognize and support these extraordinary young people.

Because caregiving youth deserve to be visible, valued, and supported.
