The SHPE Colorado Chapter was founded in 1988. Since its inception, SHPE Colorado has awarded over $50,000 in scholarships to over 50 aspiring young Hispanic Engineers and Scientists in Colorado. SHPE Colorado has also hosted the National Technical Career Conference (SHPE's National Conference) in 1995 and 2007. This conference attracts over 5,000 Hispanic Engineers and Scientists from across the
nation to research and network about engineering and science strategies impacting global and local economies. The SHPE Colorado Chapter was honored by the SHPE National Board of Directors as the 2004 Region 3 Professional Chapter of the Year. The concept of Networking and Mentorship is the key basis for the SHPE Colorado organization. SHPE Colorado mentors five student university chapters: University of Colorado at Boulder, University of Colorado at Denver, Colorado State University, University of Wyoming at Laramie, and Colorado School of Mines, to continue the network that would grow to encompass almost the entire central US Western region (SHPE's Region 3) as well as reach independent Hispanic technical communities outside the fields of engineering and science. Today, SHPE enjoys a strong but independent network of over 300 engineering professionals and students throughout the State of Colorado. Mission:
SHPE changes lives by empowering the Hispanic community to realize its fullest potential and to impact the world through STEM awareness, access, support and development. Vision:
SHPE's vision is a world where Hispanics are highly valued and influential as the leading innovators, scientists, mathematicians and engineers. Statement of Values:
We are brought together by heritage, social responsibility and desire to improve the equality of all people through the use of science and technology. We value excellence in education, professional pursuits and leadership. We obtain excellence through integrity, empowerment, achievement, diversity and continuous improvement. Strategic Focus Areas:
