Next stop on the bison culinary roadtrip: Indiana! The is about 2 months away- August 7-23... but we are already dreaming about the delicious bison meat that gets served there by .

Red Frazier Bison Ranch is a true gate to plate operation, providing the area with prepared bison meals through our mobile food trailer, Red Frazier Bison Cuisine. Bison meat brings variety to any menu, and theirs is no exception. With items like classic and specialty burgers, hot dogs, quesadillas, poutine, and chili cheese potato stacks there is definitely something for everyone.

Did we mention the bison cheese steak egg rolls? Stuffed with bison meat, peppers, onions, carrots, and cheese, then deep fried to a crispy golden brown, there is a reason why they were first runner-up in the Taste of the Indiana State Fair competition!

~TEACHABLE TUESDAY~
Today is Arborist Appreciation Day, and we want to include a thank you to our bison that serve as "unofficial" arborists!

Arborist Appreciation Day recognizes the skilled professionals who cultivate, maintain, and manage urban and wild tree populations to ensure health and longevity.

Bison may not be the skilled professionals referenced above, but they can do plenty of forest remodeling! Take a look at the trees this calf is between. Notice the bark has been stripped off both trees where the bison rub. Some may consider this damage, but let's take a deeper look at the bison benefits.

🦬 Boosting tree diversity through grazing, which prevents single plant species from dominating the landscape.🌳
🦬 Lowering wildfire risks by eating dense grasses that help reduce the fuel available for intense fires.🎋
🦬 Protecting young trees through cooler, managed fires that allow vulnerable saplings to survive.🌿
🦬 Thinning overcrowded areas by rubbing against smaller trees, which opens the canopy for sunlight.🌞
🦬 Fertilizing forest soil by depositing dung and urine, thus adding vital nitrogen to the ground.💩
🦬 Spreading plant seeds in fur and waste establishes new growth elsewhere.🌱

The NBA staff just wrapped up a quick in-person retreat in Minneapolis to review the latest NBA strategic plan put together by the Board of Directors and discuss new ways of creating value for members. Although much can be accomplished remotely, it's nice to meet in person every now and then, which we make a point to do annually. While together, the staff took in an evening of bonding by showing off their bowling skills. Needless to say, we'll stick to serving the bison community instead... Said executive director, Jim Matheson, “The NBA is blessed with a small but mighty dedicated staff that provides tremendous value to not only the membership, but to the industry at large."
