A Denver-based housing co-op, promoting collective agency and ownership. We are working to create a local network of mutual aid.

Vision:
Queen City Cooperative aims to provide affordable housing options through a shared-equity, cooperatively-owned corporation. Recognizing that the housing market in Denver is increasingly unaffordable, we support the development of alternative models, and we advocate for the economic and political legitimization of cooperatives in Colorado. We believe that the cooperative model not only fosters individual wealth and responsibility, but also builds community wealth and responsibility. Where We Are:
Our house is located in the heart of Denver’s Capitol Hill neighborhood, and we are currently at capacity with six residents. With our first major acquisition behind us, we are beginning to explore how we can introduce a shared ownership model and transform individual ownership into shared ownership. The shared-equity option is the backbone of this project, and we are eager to learn how to grow into it. Long‐term Growth:
Our intention is to share equity in our house through a cooperative organization, and to leverage the equity in this house to buy other properties in Denver. We want to create a community‐owned real estate cooperative that focuses on residential housing in order to provide:

1. Community wealth through affordable housing for member‐owners and
2. Personal wealth through ownership for people who are historically excluded from the housing

WE WON! This morning we got an email and call from the folks at HOST who have reversed their decision and will be moving forward with our loan. We are so so grateful to everyone who advocated for us over the last few days. Your words made a real difference and is a testament to the strength of our community. Special thanks to our city council reps Chris Hinds - Councilmember, Denver City Council District 10 and Flor Cristal Alvidrez for going to bat for keeping co-ops thriving in their districts. And to Councilwoman Amanda P. Sandoval, Denver District 1 for your direct advocacy today and your work in supporting housing innovation! Everyone who was coming to council tonight - we look forward to hosting you at our victory party in the future when our loan is closed. 💛🏠💛🏠💛🏠

📣 Queen City needs your support.

For over a decade, Queen City Cooperative has been a home where members share ownership, costs, meals and decisions, and where housing stays affordable in the heart of Denver. Many of you have joined us for community meals, Pies for Justice, and mission-centered gatherings. Or maybe you got to know us when we worked to legalize shared homes across the city.

In 2025, the City’s Department of Housing Stability encouraged us to apply for funding and committed a $600,000 loan to make 10 of our units permanently affordable. We spent a year completing their full underwriting. This month, the loan was denied without explanation, even though the City’s own letter says our project aligns with its housing goals.

The impact is real: without this funding we may have to sell one of our homes.

We’re asking Denver City Council to call for a fair, transparent review, and we need your voice.

Queen City Cooperative needs you this Tuesday. 🏡

After a year of promises, the City of Denver withdrew the $600,000 loan it committed to us, with no explanation. Without these funds, Queen City could close.

For over a decade, our co-op has kept housing permanently affordable in Denver. Cooperatives matter, and City Council needs to hear it.

For nearly 11 years, we’ve been building a different model of housing—one centered on community, shared meals, mutual support, and permanently affordable homeownership.

The available room is $863/month, including food (three shared meals a week!) and utilities, with the opportunity to become a member-owner over time.
