This is what real teacher recruitment looks like ‼️
Last week, we welcomed 30 young men from Los Angeles Unified School District to Metropolitan State University of Denver for our College Explorers Initiative.
For three days, they spent time with me, our MiSTERs, and MSU Denver faculty and staff exploring what college life could look like as a future MiSTER. They got to experience campus, build connections, and start seeing themselves in spaces that may have once felt out of reach.
But we didn’t stop there.
They also visited Green Valley Elementary School and saw the end result of this work firsthand through two of our alumni educators, Jordan Puch and Christopher Livingston II. They stepped into their classrooms, connected with students, played with the kids at recess, and witnessed what it looks like when representation becomes reality.
To close the trip, they hiked Red Rocks Park and Amphitheatre and got the full Colorado experience.
The results speak for themselves:
We signed a historic partnership between LAUSD and MSU Denver to build a pipeline of future teachers.
We saw record application submissions. And while not every student chose MSU Denver, every student shared that this visit convinced them to go to college.
That matters.
This is bigger than recruitment. This is exposure, belief, opportunity, and changing life trajectories.
Thank you to everyone who helped make this visit special. If you’re interested in sponsoring a new MiSTER for the 2026–27 school year, please reach out to me at [email protected].
