Celebrating 15 incredible years of Latinas First!

Today, the Colorado Hispanic Chamber of Commerce is proud to join the Latinas First Foundation in celebrating its 15th Anniversary — Raíces Fuertes, Futuro Poderoso: Strong Roots, Powerful Future.

What Juanita Chacon and Meshach Rhoades started 15 years ago has grown into something truly special — creating scholarships, mentorship, connections and opportunities while ensuring that the accomplishments and contributions of Colorado Latinas are seen and celebrated.

Congratulations to this year’s Trailblazers — Andrea, Gloria, Renee and Lynne — and Unsung Heroines — Jackie, Gracie, Diane and María. Each represents the leadership, service and commitment to community that continues to open doors for the women coming behind them.

We are also honored to celebrate civil rights icon Dolores Huerta, recipient of the inaugural Matriarca de Justicia Award, and the 60 scholars whose talent, perseverance and potential represent the future we are all working to build.

Congratulations to Juanita, Meshach, Board Chair Tish, the entire Latinas First board, and everyone who has helped build and sustain this organization for 15 years.

“Girls Can Be What They Can See.”

Today we celebrate the women who paved the way, the women leading today, and the young women who will lead us into the future.

¡Felicidades, Latinas First! Here’s to the next 15 years.

We’re proud of the Colorado Hispanic Chamber’s strong partnership with the City of Thornton and the Thornton Office of Economic Development and excited to share another great event happening in the community.

Colorado’s own Phillip Lindsay will be at DICK’S House of Sport Thornton this Friday for a special appearance and autograph signing.

Phillip has a remarkable Colorado story — from Denver South High School to CU Boulder and ultimately the Denver Broncos, where he went from undrafted free agent to Pro Bowl running back.

His story of perseverance, hard work and creating your own opportunities is one that resonates with so much of what we believe in at the Hispanic Chamber.

We were just in Thornton last week for our Chamber mixer and continue to appreciate the partnership and support of City of Thornton Economic Development. It’s exciting to see Thornton continuing to bring businesses, residents and community together.

If you’re in Thornton Friday night, this is a pretty cool opportunity to meet one of Colorado’s own!

🏈 Special Event at Dick's Sporting Goods House of Sport Thornton!

Stop by this Friday, October 2, from 7–8:30 p.m. for a special appearance and autograph signing with Phillip Lindsay, on behalf of Faherty!

This is going to be an incredible evening of music, dance and culture. RAÍCES brings together some truly extraordinary flamenco artists from here in Colorado and around the world for one night at the Newman Center.

If you’ve never experienced flamenco live, this is a great opportunity. The combination of the music, movement, rhythm and emotion is something you really have to experience in person.

Proud to support María Vázquez and Flamenco Denver and the work they continue to do to bring world-class cultural performances to our community. Hope to see many of you there!

📅 October 1, 2026 - 7.30 PM

Sometimes a story hits differently because of where you’ve just been.

Last week, we were in Nashville as part of the Denver Metro Chamber Leadership Exchange delegation. During our visit to Vanderbilt University, we spent time with researchers from the Institute of National Security and its Wicked Problems Lab talking about AI, cybersecurity and the vulnerability of America’s critical infrastructure.

One of the examples they focused on was something most of us probably don’t think about enough: our water systems.

Many smaller utilities simply don’t have the cybersecurity staff or resources of a major corporation. Vanderbilt researchers talked about their work using AI to help monitor these systems, identify unusual activity and give local operators an early warning when something may be wrong.

And then we came home to this story from Denver7 (by Óscar Contreras) about hackers infiltrating Colorado water systems.

It’s a reminder that conversations about AI and cybersecurity aren’t theoretical anymore. They’re about the infrastructure we depend on every day—water, energy, communications, healthcare and the systems that keep our businesses and communities running.

AI creates new risks, but it may also become one of our most important tools for defending against them.

As Colorado thinks about economic competitiveness and preparing our workforce for an AI-driven economy, there’s another important question we should be asking: Are we also doing enough to help our small businesses, local governments and critical infrastructure prepare for the cybersecurity challenges that come with it?
