We meet for breakfast Wednesdays from 7 am-8:30am at the Mosaic Campus in east Denver, Quebec St.

Drew Roberts of Breckenridge spoke today about the nonprofit he created called Slopes to Hope (Reducing Waste and Fostering Hope). He found out lots of people leave clothes, hats, gloves, boots, etc. at local hotels and ski areas. People have two weeks to claim them and then they are disposed of. He now picks up BAGS of clothes and takes them to various shelters and thrift stores in Denver. One hotel gave him 4,000 bed pillows and 550 sets of dishes! In 2023-2024, he collected 3,052 pounds of clothes from six resorts. He has rented two storage facilities to keep the bags until he can transport them. He needs donations to help with costs for transporting the clothes to the Denver area and volunteers to help. Very interesting talk.

Today Mary Lou Egan gave Rotarians a very interesting look back at the history of the Globeville neighborhood. She's a fourth generation Coloradan and descendant of Globeville's Slovenian immigrants. Globeville, Elyria and Swansea (GES) neighborhoods are approximately northeast of I-25 and I-70.

The Denver Mike High Rotary Club toured the Habitat for Humanity Metro Denver warehouse this morning and got an overview from CEO Jaime Gomez about the nonprofit. Since 1979, they have built 1,595 homes and repaired 982 homes. About 250 core volunteers come to help weekly. The nonprofit has four ReStores in metro Denver.

Gonzalo Maldonado-Penas, Assistant Principal of Ashley Elementary School at 1914 Syracuse St., spoke to our club about coming to Denver from Spain and teaching in a school with many low income children who speak different languages. Members of our club are volunteering at the school!
