✨ RAICES 2026 | Artist Spotlight #6
Meet Diego “El Negro” Alvarez, a Grammy Award-winning master cajón player originally from Venezuela.
Diego spent 16 years in Spain, where he developed his career alongside some of flamenco’s most prestigious dance companies, including those of Joaquín Cortés, Antonio Canales, Sara Baras, Nuevo Ballet Español, and Paco Peña.
In 2010, he won a Latin Grammy Award for Best Rock Album with La Vida Bohème’s Será, and has received more than 12 additional Latin Grammy nominations throughout his career.
Today, Diego is based in Los Angeles, where he continues to explore the cajón across flamenco, jazz, and other musical projects, while promoting it as a universal instrument with deep roots in both flamenco and Peruvian music.
We are excited to welcome Diego “El Negro” Alvarez to RAÍCES 2026. ❤️
