The 2026 RMWEA/RMSAWWA Annual Student Conference was held at the University of New Mexico, and the water community showed up. UNM students led the organizing from the ground up, bringing together more than 25 student presenters from across the Rocky Mountain region, including attendees who traveled from as far north as Fort Collins. The day included high-quality poster and oral presentations, a Professional Development Seminar panel featuring Raquel Valdez (Sandia National Labs), Alfredo Rodriguez (CDM Smith), Taylor Busch (Geo-Logic), Juan Guzman (CDPHE), and Allyson McGaughey (University of New Mexico), and plenty of time for networking and connection. It was a strong showing for the next generation of water professionals, and a testament to what student-led organizing can accomplish.

RMWEA has experienced remarkable growth over the years! Here is a snippet from the March 1978 issue of Rumbles; that year, the organization operated with a total annual income of $4,900. Back then, dues were the lifeblood.

Fast forward to 2026: Today, our annual income for 2026 is budgeted at over $578,000 and is mostly powered by our flagship programs (RMWC, Operations Challenge, and our training schools). Our key organizational investments focus on impact for the future of our industry and include communications, training programs, and the Students and Young Professionals Committee. This year, we're celebrating 90 years by investing in the next 90!
