Episode 2: Step 2 Principle -- Hope

HOPE is about one's Path in Life.
Is your Path wrought with: STRESS. ANXIETY. DEPRESSION?
All of these words have something in common: a feeling of definite HOPELESSNESS at their core.
Hopelessness comes from problems that we, in our current place and time, don't know how to solve. So they pile up bit by bit. We try to forget they're there, but we eventually start to feel the weight, the lag.
Like a computer running a buggy program. The program crashes. Enough of those poorly coded programs trying to run, and it can crash the whole computer.
Certain people, places, ideas can trigger these programs to run, seemingly without our permission. And we crash. Stress at even the thought of this person or that relationship. Anxiety from some vague memory brought up just driving by that place you used to live, or remembering that debt you owe. Depression when the movie you're watching reminds you of that mistake you made a ways back.
These old programs can be excruciating in and of themselves. But what is worse -- sometimes we can't help but run these programs 20 times a day, 50 times a day, reliving our worst moments and anticipating any number of still worse futures until we're burned up.
And then we start to die. Either we numb these viruses running at will and shut ourselves down with another drink, another bite, another show, another swipe, or we pull in, avoiding these people, places, ideas, so we don't go through the pain of another crash, all while watching our life get smaller.
Our temperament and even our character can start to change over weeks, months, years. Decades. This Path of smaller, of avoiding triggers only to be triggered once more by yet another outlier teaches us to play tiny, to hide, to be resentful and afraid of the whole damn game we seem stuck in.
This is Hopelessness.
But that is simply one Path. And the good thing is, it comes to an end, albeit a very painful one.
Could you be on a Path like this? (Even a little bit?)
Hope occurs when we are in enough pain that we begin to look for another Path.
If you could learn to operate the device you're reading this ON, you can learn to operate the device you're reading this WITH -- your mind. Just a really awesome computer, probably running some old programs that have far outrun their ability to serve you, the Real You. The Best You you could be.
Maybe there are other people like you out there. Maybe you could find them if you looked. Maybe they have a new solution to an old problem. Maybe you could learn it.
Maybe there's a way back to the You you could be. Maybe there's a way forward that will be the adventure you were truly built for.
What would happen if you not only stopped letting these programs run you, but started running the programs YOU want to run, WHEN you want to run them?
