May Caregiver Tip 002 💡

Warmer days are here! ☀️ And for seniors on certain medications, that can mean overheating faster than you'd expect.

Heat sensitivity is real, and fatigue and confusion on a warm afternoon can sneak up quickly. Keep rooms well-ventilated, watch for early warning signs, and don't underestimate mild spring heat.

Small adjustments now can prevent big problems later. 🤝

What does living in an older adult community actually look like? 🤔🏡

Kathy Dilger, Associate Executive Director of Wind Crest in Highlands Ranch, sits down with us to answer exactly that.

Wind Crest has been part of the greater Denver community for over 19 years, serving more than 2,300 aging Coloradans. It offers independent living, assisted living, memory care, and long-term care... all in one place, so residents can stay close to the people and routines they love as their needs change over time. 🤝

And the lifestyle? It goes way beyond housing, with 200+ clubs and activities, on-site healthcare, pharmacy, dining options, transportation, banking, and more.

May Senior Tip 001💡

Warmer temperatures mean your body needs more water, but thirst signals actually weaken with age. That means you can be dehydrated before you ever feel thirsty.

The simple fix? Don't wait to feel thirsty... make hydration a habit. 🤝

Aim for 6–8 glasses a day, keep a water bottle somewhere you'll see it, and remember: herbal teas and water-rich fruits like strawberries count too!

Small habits = big health wins.💧

We are thrilled to announce that AgeWise is an official recipient of the City of Lakewood's 2026 Community Grant 🥳

With this funding, we will continue our commitment to expanding Lakewood-based service provider representation in our vetted directory... connecting more aging Coloradans and Caregivers in the Lakewood community with the resources and information they need to navigate their aging journey than ever before.

Thank you to the City of Lakewood for your trust and commitment to our work, and to every resident who has visited, shared, and trusted our directory. Your engagement continues to drive this work forward. 🙏

Know a Lakewood-based organization that deserves a spot on our directory? Drop them in the comments or send us a message.👇

It's time for our May Bookworms pick! 🦉📚

This month, we're recommending Ashton Applewhite's "This Chair Rocks: A Manifesto Against Ageism."

Applewhite, a TED speaker and self-described "pro-aging radical," takes a sledgehammer to the myths we've all heard about what getting older actually looks like... and makes a genuinely compelling case for why age is something to embrace, not dread.

The read is funny, research-backed, and energizing, and we think you're going to love it!

Follow along each month for our Monthly Bookworm series, and head over to agewisecolorado.org for more!
