This didn’t just happen. The disparities we see today are the result of decisions, policies, and systems that have impacted Black communities in real, tangible ways for generations.

Understanding that matters. But it’s not where we stop.
Pay attention to what’s happening in your community. Learn how housing policies are shaping access and opportunity. Have real conversations. Stay engaged. If you want to go deeper, start with The Color of Law to understand how these systems were created, and Just Action to think about what it takes to change them.

This work is about more than awareness. It’s about what we choose to do next.

Ghana’s President Mahama recently introduced a United Nations resolution calling for dialogue on reparatory justice.

On this International Day of Remembrance of the Victims of Slavery and the Transatlantic Slave Trade, we are reminded that this history is global and so is the path forward.

As we fight for equity here in Colorado, we remain connected to a broader movement for truth, repair, and justice worldwide.

Our histories are shared.
Our responsibility is collective.

Thank you to Janelle Finch for the excellent coverage of the Colorado Black Equity Study, helping bring this initiative to a broader audience.

The study documents 165 years of harm and resilience in Colorado. Justice for Black Coloradans is working with legacy architects of the future, carrying this work from legislation and research into implementation, policy change, and long-term repair across our state. We’re honored to be part of this moment and committed to helping build what comes next.

Our Director, Yarkenda Payne-Diallo, will be moderating a panel at the Sam Cary Bar Association’s Color of Law event on February 28.

The 1:00 p.m. session will focus on how local housing policy and voting shape everyday life in our communities and why local decisions matter more than we often realize.

We appreciate the Sam Cary Bar Association for creating space to center these conversations and for inviting JBC to be part of the dialogue.

Yesterday’s Fireside Chat was a reminder of why this work matters and why it must continue beyond conversation.

Justice for Black Coloradans was honored to host a powerful dialogue with Javon Brame and Bianka Emerson, alongside our Director, Yarkenda Payne-Diallo. Together, the conversation centered on how policy, systems, and community accountability intersect, and what it means to turn insight into impact.

Huge thanks to Cyrus Dean Holt for guiding the discussion, and to MSU Denver for being a thoughtful partner in making this conversation possible.

Moments like these affirm our commitment to moving ideas into action and ensuring justice is not only discussed, but built.
