Philippians 4:6-9

Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things. What you have learned and received and heard and seen in me—practice these things, and the God of peace will be with you.

On this feast day of Saint Thérèse of Lisieux, may we be reminded of her beautiful teaching of “the Little Way”: we don’t need to do grand or extraordinary things to live a holy life. Instead, it is through the small acts of kindness, patience, and love we offer each day that we draw closer to God.

One of the hardest realities for most people to understand and accept is just how deeply and personally each of us is loved by God.

Each of us is thoughtfully and wonderfully made in His image and likeness. He knows us completely (even the number of hairs on our heads) and understands our thoughts before we speak them. We are never unknown or forgotten by Him.

When we recognize that we are beloved children of the Most High King, we can begin to live our sacred callings with greater trust rather than fear or anxiety. This does not mean we will be spared from the trials of this world, but it does mean that we never have to face them alone.

Through every hardship and uncertainty, God remains with us. And because we know who walks beside us, we can move forward with courage and trust.
