We are so incredibly proud of Julieta Ochoa for signing her National Letter of Intent today to run cross country and track for Claremont-Mudd-Scripps while attending Scripps College in Claremont, California on a prestigious full ride scholarship! Julieta is one of our original Urban XC athletes, having started running with us as a 5th grader. She never stopped showing up, displaying incredible commitment by running 48 weeks per year for her entire high school career, en route to becoming the 3rd fastest cross country girl in Denver East High School history with an 18:15 5k personal best. She also possesses PRs of 5:13 in the 1600 and 11:22 (at altitude) in the 3200 heading into her senior track season. Julieta will be joining a squad that recently placed 3rd at the NCAA Division III Cross Country Championships and has established itself as one of the best Division III programs in America.
Most importantly of all, Julieta has become an inspiration and mentor to other kids of color in our program, showing that success and joy in running is possible for them too. In Julieta’s words, “If you don’t see that representation in any situation or space, you be that representation, because people like you are needed in those spaces.” We’re so proud of you, Juli! 🥹 You are what we dreamed of when we started Urban XC.
