Statement on the shooting of a Bronx man by ICE agents
On October 8, 2026 in New York, an ICE agent with a semi-automatic r***e dressed as a construction worker shot a man, 28-year-old Oscar Belgal, while his 5 year old was in the car. Using 7 rounds on one person and hitting Belgal in the neck. In addition, articles have now explained that the NYPD did not know of the child’s whereabouts for 3 hours.
Let it be clear that this is one example of the violence, trauma, and aggressive behavior that ICE inflicts on our community every single day. At Casa de Paz, we see people every day who give us endless accounts of the brutality they face when ICE apprehends them.
We cannot be numb to this. We cannot let ICE & DHS continue to tell us that this makes us safer as we see our community live in terror. An agency so corrupt at its core cannot be reformed. Abolish ICE.
