CAUGHT WITH HIS HAND IN THE COOKIE JAR.
Here's some interesting reading for those who want to know about the corruption with Denver Parks Department. Scott Gilmore is the fellow in charge of Sloan's Lake Park. When the fish died off last year, he told those who were demanding action and answers to "Keep your mouths shut". Despite recommendation in a Study commissioned by Denver Park and issued in May of 2020, many of the recommendations have not been implemented.

Rico Jones and Friends Are Back

Y'all Come! Saturday, July 3 and Monday, July 5; 6:00 to 8:30 PM 17th Avenue and Meade Street. Bring a picnic, something to drink, a blanket and some friends with whom you can enjoy, world-class musicians among Colorado's finest.

We are happy to share that through the efforts of SLNA representatives and Rico, an agreement, a verbal accord, has been reached with the neighbors who had objected to Rico and Friends' concert performances. As with many disagreements where acrimony and bad feelings exist, a large part of the problem had more to do with miscommunication, lack of communication and poor judgement as to how to communicate...we will admit on both sides. We are happy that the neighbors who were most upset are now satisfied with the level of the sound emanating from the performances and have agreed that playing on Friday and Saturday nights and ending before 9 PM is a reasonable compromise. When possible, the music will also take place on holidays such as this coming Monday, July 5.

There were misstatements which we made in defending Rico's right to play and the benefits and joy we believe he and the musicians who play have given to the neighborhood. One of those was stating that the two neighbors objecting did not like, in fact hated Jazz. We have learned that this is not true and apologize for the misrepresentation. We also believe that, because these fellows are now also apologetic for some of their statements and actions, that any hostility towards them is misplaced. We have never endorsed doxing or harassment of these or other individuals and do not condone such actions now or in the future.

Many of your emailed the City contracted Mediator, Steve Charbonneau, telling him of your support for Rico and the concerts. Know that these well written and considerate emails, numbering over 50, did make a difference. In the end, it was face to face discussion with the neighbors which broke the ice and made the difference. But Mr. Charbonneau did his best and succeeded in bringing the parties closer together.

Please tell your friend around town to come enjoy a concert or two before Rico goes back to New York to finish his Masters at the Manhattan School of Music this fall. And, of course, support these fine musicians with your contributions in person or via Venmo and to whom we all can be grateful for enriching our lives and uplifting our spirits with their art.

CITY OF DENVER PUTS THE KABOSH ON RICO JONES AND FRIENDS JAZZ CONCERTS TONIGHT AND SUNDAY PENDING MEDIATION THIS WEEK

The two fellows who live a block away from the Rico jones and Friends Jazz Concerts and complained loudly to the City that Jazz drives them nuts, managed to shut the world class musician down for more than a month and a half. A sound test last night showed that when the band plays at their very loudest, there are a few "spikes" in the decibel level over the legal limit of 55 Db (the drum hit 60 a on occasion and the horns 58). That was enough for the City sound police to warn that Rico's dad, the property owner, will get a $250 fine the first time he has to come out again. $500 will punish Mr. Jones the 2nd time and he threatened to give each of the musicians a $250 fine on top of that!

The Jazz hating neighbors will not be satisfied until they only play one night a week. Despite the delight of the vast majority of the people who live in the neighborhoods, the City sound guy, who also dislikes Jazz, is said to also is upset with the very idea that somebody can play music from their front yard and get away with it. What would the world me like after all, if there were music coming from every block after all???? (Especially not jazz)

There is a current proposal to rezone the Sloan's Lake "Statistical" neighborhood for ADUs (Granny Flats). This proposal does not include the areas to the south of 19th Avenue as the areas near West Colfax are part of a new "Area Plan" which is scheduled to be completed next year. ADUs are expected to be recommend in parts of these areas next year.

ADUs are small, second units located behind a main house on a single unit property. They are sometimes known as carriage houses, in-law units, casitas, or granny flats. In Denver, ADUs have strict size and design standards and the owner of the property must live in either the ADU or the main house....

LAKE MANAGEMENT PLAN PUBLISHED IN MAY PREDICTED THE POTENTIAL FOR ALGAE BLOOM AND FISH KILL: RECOMMENDATIONS NOT FOLLOWED

Unbeknownst to most of us, Denver Parks commissioned a study of all of Denver Parks Lakes which was published in May of this year. It spells out the plan that will be necessary to save Sloan's Lake in the long run. Short term recommendations in the study, which it seems could have mitigated the recent damage, were not followed. Unlike in the past, priority must be placed on Sloan's Lake by Denver Parks. The relevant parts of the consultant, Biohabitat's, Plan are published here.

Gratitude to Janet Gamez for this stark, shocking video. Parks and Recreation's was out in force cleaning up dead fish this morning but left by 10 am. If they cannot do this themselves, they need to contract to get it done. So very tragic that, most likely, all fish at Sloan's Lake will have died.
