We would appreciate your prayers for our community during the ongoing statewide lockdown. NBWC services and programs are cancelled until further notice.

A Prayer for Our Siblings at DWCF

Gracious God,
We pray today for the residents and staff at Denver Women’s Correctional Facility, held in lockdown. When the walls draw closer and uncertainty fills the air, remind them: you are not locked out. No gate, no order, no circumstance can bar your presence.
We pray for their bodies: for rest, for health, for basic needs met with dignity. We pray for their minds: for peace when anxiety rises. We pray for their hearts: especially those missing their children, their families, their people today.

Let them know they are not forgotten. A community surround them outside, speaking their names to you — even the names we don’t know — trusting that you know every one.

You are the God of every locked room. Hold them until the opening comes.
Amen.

We only get to do what we do because of congregations like you! Thank you to Pr. Nic and the community of Well of Hope, ELCA for your incredible support.

As we prepare to expand our ministry to meet the needs of women re-entering the community and grow our chaplaincy support at DWCF, fundraisers like this allow us to do so.

Our volunteers are sharing about NBWC at the Rocky Mountain Synod, ELCA Assembly this weekend. We just wrapped up workshops preparing congregations to welcome people leaving prison, we’re excited about our blossoming partnership with Urban Servant Corps, and grateful for the love from our RMS congregations.

As we celebrate the birth of Christ today and the Light breaks into the world, we invite you to hold the residents of Denver Women’s Prison in your prayers.

Last night, we gathered with 200 residents for a Christmas Eve worship service, proclaiming good news of great joy even in a place often marked by waiting and separation. We are deeply grateful to the DOC staff whose care and coordination made this sacred gathering possible.

Today, we shared 500 cups of hot chocolate with residents and staff and lifted our voices together while Christmas Caroling in the Yard, a gift New Beginnings has been honored to offer in recent years, now a beloved Christmas tradition at the facility.

The holidays can be especially tender for those spending them inside. Many are carrying the ache of missing children, family, and home. While special visits, video calls, and phone conversations help bridge the distance, they cannot replace the comfort of being together.

We give thanks for your continued prayers and support this season. May God use them as a means of hope, reminding all who feel forgotten that they are seen, loved, and held in the light of Christ, even here.

In hope,
Pr. Samm

Wow! Thank you, thank you, thank you!

We collected over 800 calendars for the residents of Denver Women’s Prison. Thank you as well to Lord of the Hills Lutheran Church ELCA for assembling 60 gifts bags for the residents at Project Elevate Halfway House.

On Christmas Eve, we will worship inside at 6pm and on Christmas Day will serve Hot Chocolate and “go” Christmas Caroling in the Yard. We would appreciate your prayers this week, as the holidays can be especially difficult for our community members.

We are so grateful for each and every one of our supporters. Merry Christmas from the inside!
