Waiting for Bar Exam Results?? Colorado test takers' stress is at an all time high right not as they await tomorrow's results! But they're likely not the only ones biting their nails. As many of us know, this experience often takes a village, including family and friends. And, especially for first-generation law students, those family and friends may not know what to expect of these next 24 hours. Luckily, those of us at the CLI YLD have prepared a handout for test takers to pass along to their friends and family members, to hopefully take a little strain off of all of them.

Marika Rietsema Ball here, incoming Chair of the CLI’s Young Lawyers Division, coming to ask you for a favor! As we continue full steam ahead into 2022, the CLI YLD is eager to provide Colorado’s young lawyers and law students with the programming they need. We’re always working to make the CLI YLD exactly what young lawyers need to be successful and feedback from you all will help us decide which programs to put on and what improvements we should make to our group. Law Suit Days is here! The Denver Bar Association Young Lawyers Division is accepting donations of gently used professional men's and women's clothing, shoes, and accessories. Donations will be given to Arrupe Jesuit High School, Marsha's Closet of the Transgender Center of the Rockies, and Bayaud Enterprises.

This event is cosponsored by the Colorado LGBT Bar Association, the Asian Pacific American Bar Association of Colorado, and the Center for Legal Inclusiveness's Young Lawyer's Division.

In-person donations will be accepted at the following locations and times:

Denver Center for the Performing Arts
14th Ave. between Arapahoe St. and Champa St.

The CLI-YLD is partnering again this year with the University of Denver Sturm College of Law to develop an attorney mentorship program centered around building circles of diverse and first generation attorneys, and we would love for you to join our initiative! We are looking for both diverse and first generation senior and young attorneys to join. This program will begin in mid-September and continue throughout the Spring semester. DU has established student mentorships by pairing 1Ls. We will be expanding upon their program and adding to each pair a young attorney as well as a senior attorney. This will create a mentorship circle, wherein the members can meet either as a group or one-on-one. Thus the younger students will find mentors in their matched young attorney and senior attorney. In turn, the young attorney will act as mentor to the students as well as find a mentor of their own in the senior attorney. Each member will benefit from the group design, which will then facilitate a flexible mentorship environment.

We think it is important for diverse and first generation mentees to have mentors who can share their experiences as to what it is like to participate in the legal field as a diverse or first generation attorney. Ideally, we would like to match our mentees/mentors based on these unique characteristics including their race, LGBTQ, and first generation status. If you are interested, again, please fill out this survey no later than September 10!

JOIN US tomorrow as we co-host the DBA YLD's monthly Barristers' After Hours happy hour! We're excited to collaborate again with the DBA YLD and to share CLI's goals and events. Looking forward to tomorrow!

The DBA YLD will host Barrister’s After Hours on August 19, at FlyteCo Brewing from 5:30–7pm. Free drinks and appetizers will be provided. This event will be co-hosted with the Center for Legal Inclusiveness’ Young Lawyer’s Division. The CLI YLD seeks to stimulate interest and involvement of young lawyers in creating a more diversified and inclusive legal field. In its aim towards these objectives the CLI YLD also seeks to provide programing for young lawyers to create advocates and leaders for both their colleagues and themselves. The DBA YLD and CLI YLD are eager to see you and share more about CLI YLD’s programming and goals!
