This week, we're pulling a postcard from the archives.

Postmarked Oct. 17, 1907, it shows Officer's Row not long after it was built, part of an expansion to Fort DuPont commissioned in 1899 to house the officers stationed here and their families.

The handwritten note on the back offers a small glimpse into daily life at the time, a quiet reminder that these buildings were once simply home.

More than a century later, Officer's Row still stands right here in Delaware City.

Fort DuPont is searching for its next Executive Director.

This leadership role will guide the continued redevelopment, preservation, and public use of a historic campus on the Delaware River, working closely with Delaware City residents, local government, and community partners.

The right candidate will care about historic places, public engagement, and the long-term success of Fort DuPont and Delaware City.

The Delaware City Library has a way of turning ordinary afternoons into something kids look forward to.

This month, join them for two seasonal, hands-on programs for local children and families.

On Tuesday, Oct. 20, kids can get creative at Kids Craft: Pumpkin Painting.

After four and a half years with Fort DuPont, Executive Director Tim Slavin will retire on Jan. 1, 2027.

Since joining the organization, Tim has helped advance the restoration of historic homes, environmental cleanup, and infrastructure improvements across campus. The corporation also secured federal funding to stabilize the Branch Canal bank.

"Watching a community come together around a shared vision for its future has been especially rewarding," Tim said.

He will continue serving through the end of the year and assist with the leadership transition. The Board of Directors will begin a search for the next executive director.

What a day at Fort DuPont.
More than 200 people joined us for Muskets to Machine Guns, filling the Parade Ground with families, living history, music and plenty of opportunities to learn.

Thank you to everyone who came out, and to the many groups who helped bring the day to life. We couldn’t have asked for a better day to share the history of Fort DuPont.

These photos show the Chapel then and now, but the real story is what happened in between.

Dedicated in 1941, it was one of many frame buildings built for the military, never intended to last this long.

When the property became a state park, church congregations kept using the space. That continued use is likely a big reason the Chapel survived, while other vacant buildings from that era didn't.

Sometimes, the best way to preserve a piece of history is to keep using it.

Today, the Chapel is still part of everyday life here, right alongside the families who now call this community home.
