⚠️☀️ HEAT ADVISORY — PLEASE USE AN ABUNDANCE OF CAUTION AT SOCCER PRACTICES! ⚽️💙💛
With the extreme heat, we are asking all coaches, parents and players to take extra precautions during practices. No practice or drill is worth risking a child’s health. Please use good judgment, allow frequent water and rest breaks, and never push a player who is showing signs that they are struggling with the heat.
💧 HELP PREVENT HEAT-RELATED ILLNESS:
• Make sure players are well hydrated before they ever arrive at practice — not just once practice starts.
• Bring PLENTY of water. More than you think they will need!
• Encourage frequent water breaks, even if players say they aren’t thirsty.
• Give players regular opportunities to rest in the shade or a cooler area.
• Wear lightweight, breathable clothing whenever possible.
• Gradually increase activity and intensity, especially for players who aren’t accustomed to practicing in the heat.
• Coaches should modify the length and intensity of practice when conditions warrant it.
• Never use withholding water or water breaks as punishment.
🌡️ KNOW THE SIGNS OF HEAT EXHAUSTION:
Heavy sweating, weakness or unusual fatigue, dizziness, headache, nausea/vomiting, muscle cramps, faintness, or cool/clammy skin.
If a player begins showing these symptoms, STOP activity immediately, move them to a cooler/shaded area, begin cooling them down and provide fluids if they are alert and able to drink.
🚨 HEAT STROKE IS A MEDICAL EMERGENCY.
Warning signs can include confusion, altered behavior, loss of consciousness, seizures, or very high body temperature. If heat stroke is suspected, CALL 911 immediately and begin rapid cooling while waiting for emergency help.
Parents, please help us by making sure your player comes to practice already hydrated and prepared with plenty of water. Coaches, please keep a close eye on your players — sometimes kids don’t recognize when they’re getting overheated or don’t want to admit they need a break.
⚽️ When in doubt, sit them out. There will always be another practice. Our players’ health and safety come first. 💙💛
Please take this heat seriously, watch out for one another, and use an abundance of caution during practices! ☀️⚽️
