Properties of the MCHS include the Montgomery House, The Boyd House and the Mooresburg School House.

🎉 National Typewriter Day – June 23rd
Today we celebrate a revolutionary invention that forever changed how we write and communicate.

On this day in 1868, Christopher Latham Sholes, born in Mooresburg, Pennsylvania, was granted a patent for his invention of the typewriter — and with it, the QWERTY keyboard was born.

From personal letters to published works, the typewriter helped generations put their thoughts on paper — with a satisfying click-clack as their soundtrack.

Let’s celebrate the legacy of the typewriter and the Pennsylvania inventor who made it all possible.

Spend an afternoon exploring history together at the Boyd House Museum and Montgomery House Museum, open today from 1:00–4:00 PM.

Dads, grandfathers, veterans, and history enthusiasts will enjoy our extensive military collection featuring artifacts and stories spanning generations of American service—from the Civil War through more modern conflicts. Discover local heroes, family connections, and the history that helped shape Montour County and our nation.

History has a way of bringing generations together. Share stories, make memories, and spend a few hours exploring the past with Dad.
