Are you having a barbecue or cookout this summer? 😋
We’ll bring the tips!
1. ONLY grill outdoors! If used indoors or in any enclosed spaces, such as garages or tents, barbecue grills pose both a fire hazard and the risk of exposing occupants to carbon monoxide.
2. Position the grill well away from siding, deck railings, out from under eaves and overhanging branches, and a safe distance from lawn games, play areas, and foot traffic.
3. Never leave the grill alone while cooking or hot, and keep children and pets AWAY from the grill area by declaring a 3-foot "kid-free zone" around the grill.

SKPA Fact of the Day: A small fire can grow deadly within one or two minutes. 🚨
Protect your family by installing smoke alarms on every level of your home, in the kitchen, and in every sleeping area using 10-year tamper-proof batteries. 🔋
If you have hearing problems, use alarms with flashing strobe lights and vibration.

Did you know safe sleep preparation can begin before bringing your bundle of joy home? 🏠 Follow these crib safety tips to ensure your infant’s safety during sleep times. 💤
1. Check that your baby’s crib meets the safety standards of the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) and the Juvenile Products Manufacturers Association (JPMA). If the crib does not fit these standards, do not use it.
2. Remember, if you can fit a can of soda between the slats of a crib, that means a child’s head, hand, or foot could get stuck! Avoid wide slats, sides that lower, and design cutouts when purchasing a crib to keep your baby safe.
3. If you are getting a used crib, check to see if it has been recalled at www.recalls.gov.

At SKPA, we know parents of infants have A LOT to manage. 👶
That’s why we are sharing these safe sleep tips, which can help make sleep time safer for your baby and hopefully give you some peace of mind in the process:
1. Because most cases of infant suffocation occur in the sleeping environment, babies should always sleep in a safe crib, bassinet, pack-n-play, or other flat and firm surface
2. Room share with your baby instead of having them sleep in the same bed as you. Practice this by placing your baby’s crib, bassinet, or pack-n-play in your room for more convenient feeding and close contact.
3. Remember to always return your baby to his or her own crib when they are ready to go back to sleep.

One of our focus topics throughout Safe Kids Pennsylvania is safe sleep. Follow these tips to ensure your baby is in a healthy and safe sleeping environment. 💤
1. Lay your baby on their back for every sleep by every caregiver until the child is one year old.
2. Use a firm mattress covered with a tight-fitting crib sheet in your baby’s crib to ensure their safety and comfortability, as soft bedding can block your baby’s airway during sleep time.
3. Remove choking and suffocation hazards in your baby’s sleeping environment, including stuffed animals, bumpers, and other “cute” accessories, as these items increase the risk of injury or death..

This Safe Kids Month, we are bringing awareness to Asthma.
According to , 1 out of every 10 children in the US has Asthma, a chronic condition in which the airways narrow and swell and may produce extra mucus.
This can make breathing difficult and trigger coughing, a whistling sound (wheezing) when your child breathes out, and shortness of breath.
Many different substances and circumstances can trigger an asthma attack, like exercise, air pollution, to***co smoke, and, for many asthma sufferers, a host of allergens.
