It's our pleasure to welcome home the courageous crew of the SLNC York, who have safely returned home to the U.S. Under the leadership of Captain Hasan Erkal, Chief Mate Charles Zinni, Second Mate Clayton Russell, Third Mate Antonio Duran, Chief Engineer Andrew Gray, First Assistant Engineer Orion Milazzo, Second A.E. Samuel Franke and Third A.E. Alexander Alfonso showed true skill and professionalism while dealing with a harrowing situation at sea. Welcome home, brothers!

Congratulations to AMO Chief Mate Thor Pearson, who received the 2026 Americas Courageous Leader Award from Shell for his efforts on Crowley Corporation Stena Immaculate after the vessel was hit by another ship while at anchor off the England coast. Bravery and leadership come standard with every AMO officer!

It is with a heavy heart that AMO announces the passing of longtime member and STAR Center engineering instructor Mark Befort. Affectionately known as CHENG, Mr. Befort spent his final days mentoring the next generation of mariners in the TECH Program and sharing his wealth of knowledge and experience. He will be missed.

All AMO and Seafarers International Union of North America, AFL-CIO crew members safe on the SLNC York after the ship began taking on water in the Pacific. Crew headed to South Korea on the tanker Pacific Yantai, which responded to the distress call. AMO will be there to welcome them.
