In 2008, Fertilizer Canada (formerly Canadian Fertilizer Institute) founded the Nutrients for Life Foundation in Canada. Today, Nutrients for Life Foundation Canada is a registered charitable organization committed to bringing educational materials to the classroom, focusing on soil science and agricultural sustainability. Together, educators, community groups, scientists, and representatives from the agricultural sector produce and distribute educational materials to meet Canada’s school curriculum needs with science-based content of the highest quality. Nutrients for Life Foundation Canada supports the sustainable use of nutrients to increase the health and quality of our soil, improve production of nutritious food, and preserve green spaces. Nutrients for Life Foundation Canada addresses issues including food security and agricultural sustainability through its educational resources and programs, while working with educators across Canada to ensure its resources meet the needs of teachers and students. To validate its pedagogical value, the organization’s educational materials were reviewed by the Smithsonian Institution, the world's largest research organization and museum complex. Our Vision: The soil beneath our feet is the foundation for world food security. By leading the development and delivery of plant nutrient educational programming we ensure Canadians are informed and contributing to solutions that sustainably grow healthy plants and protect our land, air and water for future generations.

We’ve reached the final week of our School Garden Spotlight Series!

To wrap things up, we’re celebrating wək̓ʷan̓əs tə syaqʷəm Elementary School in Vancouver BC. 🇨🇦🌱 They received a garden grant of $1000 in 2025!

This grant gave the students an opportunity to explore soil, plants, food and agriculture.

These six gardens are just a small snapshot of the incredible work happening in schools across Canada.

As we head into a brand-new school year, we’re excited to see what teachers plant, what students discover and what new learning takes root. 🌱

A huge thank-you to all of the teachers, schools and supporters who help make these hands-on learning experiences possible.

🌾This week Nutrients for Life has been hosting an International Student Challenge at Richardson's Kelburn Farm. 🌾🚜 High School students from Winnipeg, England and Australia have been digging into Sustainable Agriculture: Challenges, Opportunities and Implications. 🌱Students have been participating in hands on/interactive stations exploring the nitrogen cycle, weather/climate🌤️, soil texture/properties, soil chemistry, cattle and soil health🐂, watershed health. Speakers from Manitoba Agriculture, University of Manitoba, Corteva Agscience, EcoTea and Richardson International have been sharing information about , , and . In culmination of the three days students, working in teams, will be creating a farm plan for a given piece of land while utilizing the information they gathered through this event.
