🌿 We’re celebrating another conservation win with our partners Five Valleys Land Trust. An additional 1,997 acres in the Missoula Valley, Montana, are now permanently protected through the Indreland Ranch–LaValle Creek Conservation Easement. This easement safeguards working agricultural lands, high-quality wildlife habitat, and expands the network of protected lands that help sustain the region’s natural heritage.

The property provides important winter range for elk 🦌, protects native plant communities with high conservation value & supports multiple Montana Species of Conservation Concern, including genetically pure population of westslope cutthroat trout 🐟.

The Peregrine Preserve is a spectacular 104-acre tract recently protected thanks to the efforts of our partners at Highlands-Cashiers Land Trust. Perched along the southeastern face of the iconic Whiteside Mountain, this remarkable property in Jackson Co, NC borders the Nantahala National Forest.

Ranked “Exceptional” by NC Natural Heritage Area, Peregrine Preserve safeguards one of the most biologically diverse temperate rainforests in the country. The property boasts high and low-elevation granitic domes. It provides essential habitat for wildlife and rare plants, including the green salamander, timber rattlesnakes, Blue Ridge groundsel, and granite dome goldenrod. Peregrine Preserve also creates an important buffer for the adjacent old-growth forests within the Nantahala National Forest, helping ensure these extraordinary ecosystems remain connected and resilient for generations.🌲🦎🌼🐍

🌿 DYK The Appalachian Highlands Wildlands Corridor (AHWC) is located within one of the most biodiverse temperate regions on Earth? 🌎

Home to thousands of plants, fungi, and animal species—including more than 250 rare species, with some found nowhere else on the planet—the AHWC is a truly extraordinary landscape!

Thanks to our partners Kentucky Natural Lands Trust, an additional 243 acres on the north face of Pine Mountain are now permanently protected. This acquisition expands KNLT's Hurricane Gap Preserve to 1,248 acres, safeguarding critical forest habitat at the headwaters of the Kentucky River. 🌲💧

This newly protected land also conserves the headwaters of several tributaries of Line Fork, part of the North Fork of the Kentucky River. These freshwater ecosystems are among the most biodiverse temperate freshwater systems in the world, supporting an incredible diversity of 🐟 fishes, 🦪 mussels, 🦞 crayfish, and countless aquatic invertebrates.

Nestled near Garrison, Montana, the Brock Creek property spans 49 acres in an important wildlife connectivity corridor. This ecologically significant landscape links the Northern Continental Divide, Greater Yellowstone, and Bitterroot ecosystems, providing a vital pathway for wildlife to move safely across the region.

Just east of the property, Brock Creek flows through a rich riparian corridor that is home to brook trout, rainbow trout, westslope cutthroat trout 🐟, and thriving beaver ponds. These healthy waterways also provide critical habitat for elk, deer🦌, wolves, black bears, and grizzly bears 🐻. Thanks Vital Ground for making this happen! Celebrating a win for wildlife and open spaces 🌿

We’re proud to partner with Gallatin Valley Land Trust on the permanent protection of the 437-acre Nickelson Family Ranch Conservation Easement.

Tucked within the Mill Creek drainage, this extraordinary ranch provides critical winter range and a migratory corridor for antelope, elk, deer, and countless other wildlife 🦌—connecting the Absaroka-Beartooth Wilderness to the Upper Yellowstone River.

As development pressures rise across the region, protecting large, intact ranches like this is key to preserving wildlife habitat and preventing landscape fragmentation. Learn more at: https://atiraconservation.com/project/nickelson-family-ranch/
