The Solar Village Project (SVP) envisions a world where
clean, renewable and reliable energy is accessible and affordable for all people,
the developing world leapfrogs dirty fossil fuels and relies on clean energy, and
the life-threatening impacts of climate change are permanently reversed. Our mission is to provide clean, renewable and reliable energy for all people, beginning with those who can

least afford it. We provide solar power for rural schools and health clinics in the developing world that don't have reliable access to electricity. We also install solar systems that are affordable even for the most impoverished families and individuals in rural villages. Solar power systems that provide long-term reliable energy in peoples homes, thereby limiting negative impacts from an unreliable and costly grid connection.

We did it.

9 days ago, we asked a simple question: are you one of the 25?

26 people answered yes.

Vidya Niketan Primary School in Siwan, Bihar — where 150 students lose power for hours every day in extreme heat — is getting solar.

Not because of a corporate sponsor. Not because of a gala. Because 26 individual people decided this school mattered.

Every Certificate of Power was $200. Every dollar is reserved for this specific school. Construction begins this month.

To everyone who claimed a certificate, forwarded an email, or shared a post — thank you!

Update: 24 of 25 Certificates of Power claimed for Vidya Niketan. 1 to go by midnight.

$200 = one piece of a solar system for a school in Bihar that loses power every single day.

This only happens if we hit 25. We're close.

This Earth Day, we're trying something different.

We have a school called Vidya Niketan in Siwan, Bihar — one of the poorest districts in India. 150 students. The power cuts out 4–6 hours every single day in 110°F heat. No backup. No generator. The fans stop, the water pump dies, and the classrooms go dark.

The school is ready for solar. The roof is assessed. The installer is lined up. Everything is in place.

So instead of asking for donations, we created 25 Certificates of Power — $200 each. Together they fully fund the installation. Every dollar is reserved for this school. We break ground when it's fully funded.

17 of 25 are already claimed. We need 8 more by the end of today.
Are you one of the 8?

Last month, Cyclone Ditwah hit Sri Lanka hard, bringing severe flooding and landslides and damaging schools across the country.

This month we will be helping the Illipathanna School recover with something simple but powerful: reliable solar + battery backup.

When the grid goes down after a disaster, a school can become more than a school, it can be a safe, dependable place for the whole community. This system will help keep essential power available for lighting, communications, and day-to-day continuity as the area rebuilds.

If you want to help us bring reliable power to more schools impacted by climate disasters, donate or reach out.

Solar street lights might sound simple, but in the Himalayas they’re a big deal.

More light means safer walking after dark, easier access to essential services, and stronger community resilience, especially during rough weather and outages.

We’re installing solar street lights in Uttarakhand (Himalayan region of India) to improve safety and mobility where reliable infrastructure can’t be taken for granted.

What our supporters helped make happen in 2025.

✅ 26 schools and clinics powered with solar in 2025
✅ 50+ solar street lights installed to improve safety and mobility after dark
✅ 100+ active school and clinic installations maintained—routine checks, repairs, and on-the-ground support to keep systems performing
✅ Women’s empowerment milestone: our first cohort of 5 women solar technicians in rural Bahraich District completed hands-on training to handle preventative maintenance and service calls for assigned installations

This is what durable impact looks like: not just new projects, but the local capacity to keep systems working year after year.

If you’re considering a year-end gift, it goes a long way right now: https://solarvillageproject.org/donate-now/

This year wasn’t easy for the communities we serve longer outages, tougher conditions, and growing need. But together, we made 2025 a year of real progress.

If you’re part of this community in any way as a donor, partner, volunteer, or supporter thank you. ❤️

A solar installation is only as strong as the maintenance behind it.

This month we partnered with TERI - The Energy and Resources Institute, one of India’s leading research and training organizations focused on clean energy and sustainable development.

Together, we ran a one-week, hands-on crash course for our first cohort of 5 women solar technicians, focused on solar operations, maintenance, and field troubleshooting.

Over an intensive week, they trained on:
✅ Routine O&M checks to prevent downtime and extend system life
✅ Understanding key components and common failure points
✅ Basic wiring and parts identification
✅ Safe, structured troubleshooting steps
✅ A clinic site visit to see a live installation and connect training to real-world service
➕ Plus practical tool skills, including using multimeters to take voltage readings across batteries and other components

Next step: these technicians will help support solar-powered schools and clinics in their own areas so systems keep performing and critical services stay reliable year after year.

When the grid fails in Puerto Rico, solar can be the difference between “ride it out” and real danger.

We’re working with local partners to turn community centers into resiliency hubs—sites with solar + storage where neighbors can:

🔌 Charge phones
💊 Keep medicines refrigerated
💡 Have light and a safe gathering place during blackouts and storms

Your support has already helped bring resilient power to multiple community sites. We’re just getting started.

🌞 Help us build more hubs and protect more families:

At the Kautilya school village school in Uttar Pradesh, power cuts used to average around 10 hours a day.

Now the solar system keeps classrooms lit and fans running so students can actually focus on learning instead of the heat.

When you give to Solar Village Project, you’re not just funding panels, you’re funding reliable education time in some of the hardest-hit communities.
