ROLDA is an internationally supported charity working in Romania to solve efficiently the appalling problem of the country’s millions of homeless animals. Our keys focuses are rescue, rehabilitation and rehoming dogs and cats from our private shelters, as well as offer practical help and education locally to low-income pet owners. ROLDA campaigns nationally for animal rights and provides humanitarian aid during disasters like the war in Ukraine.

While much of the world has moved on, the reality for animals living through the war in Ukraine has not changed. Dogs, cats and farm animals are still being abandoned, injured, displaced, and left without access to food, shelter, or medical care.

For years, ROLDA has continued showing up for animals affected by the war through direct rescue efforts, emergency aid deliveries, veterinary support, evacuations, and long-term partnerships with rescuers working on the ground.

We also support a network of trusted ROLDA Rescue Heroes across Ukraine, independent rescuers and shelters risking everything to save animals in some of the hardest-hit areas. Together, we have helped thousands of animals access safety, treatment, food, and the chance of a future beyond survival.

Donna arrived at our shelter alongside her puppies after searching for food and safety for her little family. Thanks to the care she received, her puppies have already found loving homes and now Donna is about to start her next chapter too! ❤️‍🩹⁠

Could Dagmar be your perfect little sidekick for life’s adventures? 🐾

At just five months old, Dagmar is already full of curiosity, energy, and puppy playfulness. She’s always looking for something new to explore and would love a home where she can learn, play, and grow alongside her people.

Dagmar is searching for an active family who understands that puppies need patience, guidance, and lots of love while they figure the world out. She enjoys being around other dogs and would fit beautifully into a home filled with walks, playtime, training, and of course plenty of cozy couch cuddles after a busy day 🐶

This puppy was hit by a car and left lying injured in the cold for days 💔

She could barely move properly. Someone covered her to try to protect her from the weather, and another person briefly bandaged her legs, but no one took her to a clinic. No one stayed to make sure she was actually safe.

So she waited there in pain, frightened, and alone.

Then one of our ROLDA Rescue Heroes stepped in.

She refused to walk away or accept that this puppy had already been “helped enough.” She took her straight to the veterinary clinic, where X-rays were done, and proper treatment finally began.

She was so terrified when help arrived that we had to use a net to catch her to try to bring her in without causing any further injuries.

She is now safe, receiving the care she urgently needed, and finally has people fighting for her recovery every step of the way.

❤️‍🩹 At ROLDA, we will always step in for animals who have no one else. No dog should be left suffering alone without the medical care they need.

Today we’re celebrating Adela, one of our wonderful Marketing Specialists at ROLDA.

Over the past few years, Adela has been an important part of helping us share the stories behind our rescue work and connect more people to our mission. She is passionate about creating positive change for animals and is proud to be part of a team working towards a kinder world for dogs and cats in need.

Adela is a huge animal lover herself and has adopted two rescue cats, who bring plenty of joy and personality into her home.

Adela, thank you for everything you do for animals and for being such a valued part of the ROLDA team 🐶

Flora was abandoned alone on a mountain peak in an area so dangerous for small dogs that she likely would not have survived much longer 😔

Nearby were large sheepfold dogs known to attack and kill smaller animals. Flora was tiny, vulnerable, and completely defenceless.

Thankfully, one of our ROLDA Rescue Heroes acted quickly and brought her to the shelter before taking her home to look after her.

Today, Flora is safe in foster care. She has a warm place to sleep, people looking after her, and a future filled with people who will never give up on her.

Abandonment is never the answer. If you know of anyone who can no longer care for their pet, encourage them to take their dog to a rescue rather than leaving them alone to fend for themselves 💔

Can you help us give Coca the pain-free life she deserves? 💔

Coca spent years in a puppy mill while her legs slowly gave out.

When we rescued her, we discovered she had a dislocated kneecap that had been left untreated for so long it had calcified against her leg bone. Despite living in constant discomfort, she was still being used for breeding.

We immediately rushed her to surgery to reposition her kneecap, but her journey is far from over.

Over the next few months, Coca will need further operations on both back legs, followed by ongoing physiotherapy to help her rebuild strength and mobility.

Still, through everything she has endured, Coca remains incredibly loving. She greets people with kindness, seeks affection, and simply wants a soft place to rest and feel safe.

No dog should have to suffer like this just because they were used for profit.

After spending years chained together, losing the only home they had ever known, and arriving at our shelter exhausted and overwhelmed, these sweet girls have finally received the update we were hoping for…

They are now together in foster care! 🥹

For the first time in a very long time, they are sleeping in soft beds, resting in a warm home, and learning what it feels like to truly relax ❤️‍🩹

Their foster family says they spend most of their time close to one another, enjoying quiet naps, affection, and all the love spoils they were missing for so many years.

Watching them slowly settle into comfort and safety has been incredibly emotional for our team. Senior dogs are so often overlooked, especially bonded pairs, which makes this second chance even more special.

Thank you for caring about these girls, sharing their story, and helping us continue supporting elderly dogs who have nowhere else to go. Their journey is not over yet, but their new chapter is already looking so much brighter. 🐶
