ROLDA is an internationally supported charity working in Romania to solve efficiently the appalling problem of the country’s millions of homeless animals. When the war in Ukraine began, the lives of thousands of animals were turned upside down…

Some were left behind as their families were forced to flee, while others were found injured or trying to survive in communities devastated by war.

Thanks to our ROLDA Heroes, more than 27,000 animals have been rescued and given the chance to leave that fear behind.

The transformations you see are what those rescue missions make possible. Animals who have experienced so much can finally feel safe again and begin a completely different chapter of their lives.

Our ROLDA Heroes see some incredibly heartbreaking cases 😔

In areas affected by conflict, emergency support for animals caught directly in the crisis is essential. At the same time, everyday rescue work cannot stop.

Animals are still abandoned. They still become sick and injured, and they still need emergency veterinary care. The people trying to help them are doing so while resources are already incredibly stretched.

That’s why your support of our ROLDA Heroes matters so much.

When this senior dog was found in Palestine, he had been lying on the street unable to walk for almost two weeks. He had suffered severe injuries, his wounds were badly infected, and by the time our ROLDA Hero was contacted, he desperately needed medical attention.

Your support meant we could help our ROLDA Hero step in and get him to a veterinary hospital, where he received the intensive treatment he needed to survive.

He still has a long recovery ahead of him, but he is eating and getting stronger. Most importantly, he now has the opportunity to experience a very different life from the one he was rescued from. ❤️‍🩹

🚨 Moons is looking for a special family who can give him the time and support he needs to settle into his new life in the UK.

Originally from Romania, Moons arrived in the UK two weeks ago and has since found himself in an emergency foster home.

He is an enthusiastic, friendly boy with so much love to give, and we know he will make an incredible adventure companion for the right family.

However, Moons can only stay with his emergency foster family for one more week, and we urgently need to find him a home. We desperately want to avoid him returning to the shelter after all the progress he has made.

Understandably, moving to a new country and adjusting to a different home and routine has been overwhelming. Thankfully, he is in wonderful hands and is already coming on leaps and bounds. We want to find a family who can continue that progress and help him feel safe and confident.

We are looking for a foster-to-adopt home with a family who can offer Moons the long-term commitment he deserves. ROLDA UK will cover the initial cost of a Clinical Animal Behaviourist to help him settle.

Moons loves his toys, adores his walks, is learning to cope on his own and is the wiggliest boy when meeting new people. He will need support with settling in, managing his excitement and nerves, and feeling comfortable around resources.

He needs a special home:

🐾 At 32kg, Moons needs someone confident handling larger dogs.

🐾 Garden or consistent walks.

🐾 Adult-only home.

🐾 He can live with another calm, neutral dog.

🐾 His family must be willing to work with ROLDA and a Clinical Animal Behaviourist, which may include medication. Initial costs will be covered by ROLDA.

He is neutered and has tested negative for brucella, leishmania, heartworm, anaplasmosis, ehrlichiosis and Lyme disease.

Tyra hasn’t had the easiest start in life, and right now, the world can still feel like a very big place. ❤️‍🩹

Before coming to ROLDA, Tyra had very little experience of life outside the shelter or of spending time with people. New situations can feel overwhelming, but in calm surroundings where she feels safe, we can see she’s starting to take those important little steps forward.

Tyra is kind by nature and allows our team to gently handle and care for her. She gets along well with other dogs and could live with a confident canine companion who may help her feel more secure.

What she needs now is a patient, experienced family who understands shy dogs and will give her the time she needs to discover that the world can be a safe and happy place.

Tyra is around 10kg and is available for adoption in the UK and Sweden.

Our ROLDA Hero, Ruslan, was struck by a drone on a recent mission to evacuate animals near the frontline in Ukraine

Up to three times a week, he travels into high-risk areas where animals have been left behind, helping evacuate them to safety.

Since the war began, these missions have helped save more than 27,000 animals, but countless more still need help.

The danger facing the people trying to reach them is also growing.

Our ROLDA Heroes are determined to keep saving animals, but we need to help protect them while they do it.

It’s our founder Dana’s birthday! 🎉🐾

For more than 20 years, Dana has dedicated her life to helping animals, and every year, her birthday wish comes back to the same thing: to help more animals who have nowhere else to turn ❤️

This year, that wish has taken on a very different meaning.

Dana has travelled to Ukraine multiple times and joined our ROLDA Heroes as they work near the frontline. She knows firsthand the risks they take to reach animals trapped in places where few others are willing to go.

More than 27,000 animals have already been evacuated, but so many are still waiting.

For Dana’s birthday this year, her wish is simple: that our ROLDA Heroes can keep reaching them without having to risk their lives in an unprotected vehicle. ❤️‍🩹

If left untreated, 90% of dogs with parvovirus will die. It’s an awful disease and one we sadly see far too often.

A family living near our shelter had taken in five vulnerable puppies when they became seriously ill with parvovirus. They knew the puppies needed veterinary treatment, so they reached out to ROLDA.

Our team stepped in to help them access the care the puppies desperately needed. Sadly, despite everyone’s efforts, two of the puppies didn’t survive.

Three of them did, and they are now healthy, growing stronger and have an even happier chapter ahead of them.

The family who fought so hard to help them has decided to keep all three, giving them the safe and loving home they deserve 🥹

Parvo is preventable through vaccination, yet it remains incredibly dangerous for young and unvaccinated dogs. This is why access to preventative care and veterinary treatment matters so much, particularly in communities where vulnerable and stray animals need our help.

At ROLDA, we’ve always believed that rescue goes beyond removing a dog from a situation. We work tirelessly alongside other ROLDA Heroes to provide education, resources and medical care for local communities.

On 31 August, one of our partner rescue vehicles was hit by a drone while travelling through the Kramatorsk region. Two rescuers were injured and hospitalised.

This is the reality our ROLDA Heroes face as they travel into dangerous areas near the frontline to rescue animals who have been left behind.

More than 27,000 animals have already been evacuated since the war began, and there are still so many waiting to be reached.

This little boy has been through so much 😔 When our team found him in Smardan, Romania, a severe infection had badly damaged both of his eyes.

We rushed him to our vet, but despite everything that was done to help him, the damage was already too advanced, and his eyesight could not be saved.

He is now completely blind, but he is adjusting incredibly well. He loves being held, purrs when he feels a gentle touch and is already making new friends while recovering at our cat sanctuary.

His life is going to look a little different, and our team will be there to help him learn how to navigate it safely. Most importantly, he now has people around him who will make sure he receives the care he needs and knows just how loved he is. ❤️‍🩹

The floods in Nepal may have passed, but for animals across affected communities, the emergency is far from over 💔

Our ROLDA Heroes continue to work on the ground, reaching animals and communities affected by the devastating floods and landslides.

Animals still need veterinary treatment, food and ongoing care, while damaged roads, mud and debris continue to make reaching some areas incredibly difficult.

ROLDA remains committed to supporting rescuers on the ground as this work continues. By working directly with rescuers who know these communities, your donations can help provide the resources they need to keep reaching animals throughout the recovery.

There is still so much to be done, and your support can help make sure these animals are not forgotten once the immediate emergency has passed.
