ROLDA is an internationally supported charity working in Romania to solve efficiently the appalling problem of the country’s millions of homeless animals. Our keys focuses are rescue, rehabilitation and rehoming dogs and cats from our private shelters, as well as offer practical help and education locally to low-income pet owners. ROLDA campaigns nationally for animal rights and provides humanitarian aid during disasters like the war in Ukraine.

Nessi should be someone’s lapdog.

Instead, she was found on the frontlines of war in Ukraine, fighting to survive.

She was brought to one of our ROLDA Heroes, Irina, by the military. In the middle of destruction, someone thankfully refused to leave her behind.

Once she was safe at the shelter, the reality of her condition became clear.

Poor Nessi is very ill. She is struggling with heart and lung problems, and her body is weakened by a severe inflammatory condition. Right now, every breath is an effort.

The team are doing everything they can to stabilise her, keep her comfortable, and give her a fighting chance ❤️‍🩹

There are so many dogs and other animals, just like Nessi, impacted by the ongoing conflict that desperately need our help.

We can’t believe Olivia is still waiting for her home 🐾😔

At just 3 years old, Olivia is full of energy and ready to get out into the world with her person. She loves to explore, learn, and be part of whatever is going on, especially when there are treats involved.

She would make an amazing companion for someone who enjoys long walks, training, and keeping their dog engaged. Olivia is eager to learn and has so much potential to grow into a brilliant, well-rounded dog with the right guidance 🥹

She could live with another dog, but would do best in a home without cats, as she finds them a little too interesting. More than anything, Olivia is ready to meet her person and finally have a place to call her own.

Do you remember the puppies who were living in a cemetery? 💔

When they were first rescued, they were too frightened to let anyone near them. For days, they stayed hidden inside the little shelter they had been using for protection, watching the world from a distance and trying to understand where they were.

Now, their lives look completely different 🐾

Both puppies have been adopted by wonderful families and are finally getting to experience all the things they missed out on before: soft beds, peaceful naps, full bellies, and plenty of cuddles.

The same puppies who once hid from people are now learning what it means to feel safe, loved, and completely at home 🥹

Is a puppy worth their suffering? 😔

Behind many puppies sold online or through pet shops are dogs trapped in systems built entirely around profit. Forced breeding. Cages. Neglect. Mothers are used over and over again until their bodies can no longer cope.

Over the years, we have rescued dogs abandoned after years of breeding, stepped into breeding facilities to save survivors in urgent need, and provided care to animals who had never experienced kindness before.

But rescue is only one part of this fight.

Every donation helps us continue rescuing vulnerable dogs, funding urgent veterinary treatment, supporting rehabilitation, and pushing for stronger protections for animals trapped in these systems.

No dog should spend their life treated like a machine.

Do you remember Lexa? ❤️‍🩹

When we first shared her story, Lexa had spent the first year of her life hidden away in a shed, surviving on scraps and completely isolated from the world. She had never experienced proper care, comfort, or even simple human affection.

When she was rescued, she was weak, covered in parasites, and terrified. Slowly, with patience and kindness from her foster family, Lexa began learning that people could be safe, gentle, and loving.

Today, we are so happy to share that Lexa has officially been adopted 💖🐶

Her foster family realised this sweet girl had already found her forever home with them. After everything Lexa has endured, living without freedom, light, safety, or love - she now has exactly what every dog deserves: a family who adore her!

Tasha lost her life to a puppy mill 💔

When she was rescued, Tasha was severely underweight, weak, and suffering from tumours that required urgent surgery. After months of treatment, care, and recovery, she finally began gaining weight and experiencing the comfort and safety every dog deserves.

But nearly a year later, the disease returned, and in January, Tasha passed away.

For so many dogs trapped in puppy mills, rescue comes after years of neglect, exploitation, and damage that cannot always be undone. While we’re grateful she knew love and care in her last year, this beautiful girl deserved so much more.

🚨 We refuse to let this continue to be the reality for more dogs like Tasha.

That is why we continue fighting against puppy mills through rescue, awareness, advocacy, and urgent care for survivors who have nowhere else to go.

Olle brings a happy, easy energy wherever he goes. He settles in quickly, loves being around people, and has a natural way of making himself part of the group.

He is always up for whatever the day brings, whether that is heading out on an adventure, playing with other dogs, or just being close to his people. Olle has a genuine joy about him that you feel straight away, and he loves being involved in everyday life 🥹
