This is Ziggy (left) and Jaz(right)— two more of the lucky ones making their way from California to New York in the Summer Lovin’ rescue.
Ziggy was an owner turn in (booooooo), but the shelter notes: “shelter notes: 8/2-Ziggy was frightened to walk thu the kennels to the little yard so I carried him. Once in the yard he immediate pooped & peed, definitely house broken. He spent much of his time searching for a way to escape but consistently took a break and came to me for some affection. He was not interested in the dog in the next yard. He was brave enough to walk all the way back into recovery. He has a healthy appetite and occasionally would sit for a treat. He is a sweet dog.”
Happy trails to Ziggy

Update:
Jaz was going to make the trip but before I even got this posted he already got adopted by someone in California who drove a great distance to get him! Lucky pup!

This is Griselda and Mary - two of the pups rescued from a Los Angeles shelter and headed to MCR in New York soon. Charlotte said she had to “sign her life away” to bring these two because the shelter had them noted as feral, biters, and all sorts of “behaviors” which Charlotte just knew meant they were scared, and rightly so! But they are safe now and decompressing at the home of Bill and Susan Massey.
Stay tuned for more of the Summer Lovin’ crew!

More on the California to New York August rescue!

Susan Matherly picked up dogs (selected by Charlotte) in LA. She took them to Susan and Bill in San Luis Obispo, where they are now. Susan and Bill will meet Julie Levine Sunday in Bakersfield and Julie will head south to Hemet with 14 dogs., who will then be transported by a wonderful mom and daughter team allllll the way across the country to the safe haven that is Meade Canine Rescue!
It takes a village!
(Photos are of two of the lucky ones! More to come!)

UPDATE: Dog on right already has a home in California, so she’s staying! Things are changing by the minute!

(An update from Charlotte with big news for a big rescue in August!)

ONE YEAR AND ONE MONTH

It’s been over a year since Meade Canine Rescue returned to its roots after 13 prolific and hard working years in the west. Many followers joined us on that harrowing journey across the country with eight mostly elderly volunteers, 33 mostly elderly dogs and one cat loaded into one definitely elderly truck and trailer, two elderly cars and a rundown elderly bus. We hope even more have continued to follow us during another hardworking 13 months of bi costal dog rescue.

Our beloved Meade Canine Rescue Resale shop has remained open in Atascadero thanks to efforts of amazing volunteers, helping fund vet care for local pets and extensive care for pets at the rescue.

It didn’t take long before we took in our first rescue and then another and another and another. In early December our first California transport arrived and during the course of the year we welcomed quite a few others lucky enough to hitch flights with good samaritans willing to add a carry on. Approximately 75 dogs have been rescued and cared for through intakes and diverts over these 13 months; no grass growing under our feet even with all the rain.

Without access to the shop - a drop off center when we were in Creston - we’ve seen a big decrease in much needed supplies, food and treats. The move confused some who weren’t aware how we’d still be helping CA dogs but thanks to the internet and efforts of our incredible CA volunteers, we’ve been able to keep making a difference.

Our August endeavor is another transport leaving in a few days carrying CA canines with no where to turn. It’s never easy having to chose from the staggering numbers in need but heart wrenching decisions quickly become heart warming anticipation.

Logistics, planning and expense can be daunting but thanks to pound staff, MCR volunteers and Julie with Canine Rescue Connection getting them out of the pounds and to the central departure location, the lucky dogs begin their journey to new beginnings, putting abandonment behind them.

So please stay in touch. If you’ve lost touch, please renew your commitment to a great cause. And if you are able to support our upcoming endeavor and/or ongoing daily needs, please donate and show your support.

From all of us here and there, dogs , Cat and humans, we thank you.

WE arrived in NY13 months ago and it is oranges (CA) and apples (NY). And not just the weather! Though that is REALLY oranges and apples - dry triple digits to wet thunderbumpers.
Lots to update, busy but in a very different way, all dog related. This week we focus on choosing a dozen or so lucky dogs for transport from orange groves to apple orchards. If you question why, its because there is a dire need! We are choosing are dogs from dog pounds where their chances are limited so it only makes sense that their lives will improve 100 fold. If you want to support a good cause, please donate and mark 'transport'. Volunteers and Canine Rescue Connection will help get dogs to a central departure point in So CA. We will gladly share the amount the rescue will spend with anyone interested, but suffice it to say it is in the thousands. Charlotte

Today was amazing our first adoption of a diabetic dog ever. This angelic like human fell in love with Glenda’s face, visited today and took Glenda home with her. She’ll be following up continuing to get the sugar levels down further after what our vet believes to have been a long time untreated.
Thanks to a kind Samaritan who flew her from California to New York where I picked her up in Times Square when the lights were bright Glenda from Modesto on Broadway.
Took the train back to The Rescue and the rest is history. Today marks a special day for everyone. ❤️

Who’s helping who? Friend Ruth, major animal rights person, started “pet assistance” 40 years ago to help with vet bills and research options, waits (while charlotte went back for car) with ancient pit James who couldn’t make it any further.
