Strengthening the mind is just as important as strengthening the body! Summer is a great time to read for fun instead of the classroom! The Red River Public Library is also hosting several summertime programs!

Our Little Library at the Village Hall has some new books for readers of all ages!!

This will be an excellent tournament close to our area, with Karate and other styles present as well! There will also be a USKA tournament on May 2nd, Sensei has flyers available so let me know if you are interested!

Here's a video showing Fukyugata Ichi (Basic/Universal Form 1) and Fukyugata Ni (Basic/Universal Form 2), which is also sometimes called Gekisai Dai Ichi (Attack and Destroy - Greater) in the Goju-Ryu style! White and Yellow belts will soon be working on FG1 if they aren't already. Higher ranks have been working on Pinan Shodan, so FG2 will actually be their third kata. Practice hard!

Sensei has been looking up tournaments now that the warmer seasons are upon us, and it looks like there will be several opportunities for any students interested in competing!

Parents, if your student is interested in one or a few of these tournaments, let Sensei know and I'll do my best to be there as well! Competition is not a requirement for any belt test, but it is an excellent way to challenge yourself, make new friends that share your interests, and maybe even win some nice trophies! I do, however, require that any student interested in competition OBSERVE a tournament first before signing up to compete in one! And keep in mind that the best martial artists always take their training very seriously!
