Hello,
I wanted to share this testimony with you from someone that is successful as a result Steps to Recovery Homes working together with people like you in our community and of course his effort and willingness.
“ When I first came into this program (STRH), I had nothing. I came to Arizona from North Carolina with no wallet, no ID, no driver’s license, no birth certificate, no vehicle, nowhere to live, no family even close and no real direction for my life, having just been released from Yavapai County Jail. Looking back now, coming into this program while I was on probation was one of the best things that has ever happened to me.
The Job Development Program gave me the tools I needed to rebuild my life from the ground up. They helped me create a professional resume, develop job skills, obtain my birth certificate, get my ID and driver’s license, secure stable housing, and eventually get a vehicle. STRH did not just help me meet my basic needs. STRH helped me become self-sufficient.
One of the most important parts of my recovery was being placed in clean, structured housing with peer-driven management. Having a safe and supportive environment surrounded by people who were also working toward recovery gave me the stability I needed to focus on changing my life. The accountability, structure, and daily support from my peers played a major role in helping me stay on track and build healthy habits.
Most importantly, this program taught me how to live clean. Going through Intensive Outpatient (IOP) gave me the education and support I needed to understand my addiction, develop relapse-prevention skills, set meaningful goals, and begin building a life with purpose. I learned that recovery is about much more than staying away from drugs. It is about changing the way I think, make decisions, and live every day.
The program also introduced me to a fellowship of people who were living healthy, productive lives in recovery. Through meetings, support groups, and service work, I found a community that genuinely cared about my success. Being involved in service and giving back to others helped me realize that recovery is not something we do alone. Having mentors, peers, and friends who understood my struggles gave me hope and showed me what was possible.
As I progressed into Extended Outpatient (EOP), I was given more freedom at exactly the right time. It allowed me to practice everything I had learned in IOP while still having the accountability and support of the program. That balance helped me gain confidence without drifting too far from the structure that was keeping me successful.
This program completely changed my life. It gave me the opportunity to rebuild while also allowing me to successfully meet the requirements of my probation. Instead of probation being something that held me back, this program helped me use it as a foundation for growth and accountability.
Today, I have stability, direction, and hope for my future. I have the tools to continue living a clean and productive life, and I am truly grateful for everyone who invested in me and believed in me when I was starting over.
I can honestly say that coming into this program was one of the best decisions I have ever made. It gave me a second chance at life and showed me that recovery is possible when you have structure, support, and people who believe in you.
Thank you - Kenneth Tyler Andrews”
