Yesterday, May 26th, 2026, was a historic day for independent rural health clinics in Louisiana. HB 971 officially PASSED its final step of legislature in the Louisiana Senate Chamber.

This was not an easy battle, but it was a necessary one. For the last year and a half, countless hours were spent behind the scenes researching, planning, organizing, and fighting for the future of independent Rural Health Clinics and the patients who depend on them every day.
This victory happened because people showed up. Providers, clinic owners, staff, advocates, patients, and supporters across Louisiana came together and made their voices impossible to ignore.

Louisiana Rural Health Collective is incredibly honored to have the support of so many wonderful providers who stood with us throughout this fight. To all of our members who believed in us, advocated beside us, traveled to the Capitol, spoke with Senators, donated, and supported this mission in every way possible- thank you. We truly could not have done this without you.

A special thank you to our amazing lobbyist for the relentless work and advocacy that helped carry HB 971 across the finish line.

HB 971 represents more than legislation. It represents sustainability for independent Rural Health Clinics, protection for patient access, and a stronger future for rural communities across Louisiana. This bill also secures rate increases of $41.50 per year for two years, helping support the long-term sustainability of independent rural clinics across our state.

This is a massive win for rural healthcare, independent clinics, and the patients who rely on us every single day.

We are proud to announce that HB971 received a unanimous favorable vote from the Senate Health & Welfare Committee.
Thank you to everyone who showed up ready to testify and stood together in support of rural healthcare across our state. We are grateful for every clinic, provider, and advocate who took the time to make their voices heard.

HB 971 has officially PASSED the House Chamber with a favorable vote of 91-6!
Today marks a major victory for independent Rural Health Clinics and the rural communities we serve across Louisiana. Despite opposition and competing interests, the voices of local providers, clinic leaders, and advocates were heard loud and clear.

We are incredibly proud of the momentum behind this effort and the growing recognition that independent rural healthcare deserves strong support and fair reimbursement. This bill is about protecting access to care, independent businesses, strengthening community-based medicine, and ensuring rural providers can continue serving the patients who rely on them most.

We’re grateful to everyone who has stood with us throughout this process. The work continues, but today is a powerful step forward.
