July was unlike every other month for GFS-LA.🛬🌏

From the 1st-9th, our representatives convened with GFS/GBFS groups from around the world. Thanks to Girls' Friendly Society, Sri Lanka and the GFS World teams, over 150 leaders from 24 countries were welcomed in Colombo like family.

And this family got down to business.
📑Every participating country shared a report—an opportunity to both teach and learn from each other.

💸Debates were active for the World Project funding decision—Congrats to Lesotho and their incoming printing program!

🇺🇸Girls' Friendly Society, USA (GFS/USA) stood united with our delegate and newly-consecrated GFS World President‼️, Lois Frankforter.

🙋‍♀️Youth gathered in a summit of faithful professional development and taking action.

🧡Distinguished speakers presented and engaged in a Q&A on

Sri Lanka left an impact on our team, and what a wonderful first World Council it was for Mother Patricia and Klaire, GFS-LA's Chaplain and Executive. It will be an honor for Girls' Friendly Society, USA (GFS/USA) to host in 2029, and our team looks forward to it!

Our GFS Motto calls us to "Bear one another's burdens" in order to fulfill our commitment of faith. To our Anglican family in Uganda, we send this prayer as the community mourns so many young lives lost this week.🩵

"Let us pray,
Gracious and loving God: What has happened? We do not understand, O God.

What we feel today is different than fear, deeper than pain. Our souls have been struck with terror, for the little children who died had hopes, dreams, and joys of their own. In them we see our own children and grandchildren, and we mourn alongside their parents and grandparents. We mourn for their teachers, also, who selflessly spend their lives providing care, love, and nurture.

O sovereign God, we remember your promise, that you “heal the broken-hearted, and bind up their wounds." Be with those whose grief is inconsolable. Walk the path of mourning they now face alongside them, for only you, O God, have shoulders strong enough to bear this burden."

Amen.
