The IIFET Executive Committee is pleased to announce the 2026 recipients of the IIFET Fellow and Distinguished Service Award.

Dr. Madan Dey of Texas State University has been selected as the 2026 IIFET Fellow in recognition of his influential contributions to fisheries and aquaculture economics. His research and policy work, particularly on seafood production and markets in lower-income countries, has advanced the field while strengthening research capacity globally.

The Committee has also selected two recipients of the Distinguished Service Award. Dr. Tony Charles of Saint Mary’s University is honored for his decades of leadership and service to IIFET, as well as his lasting contributions to fisheries economics, policy, and mentorship. Dr. Kuperan Viswanathan of Universiti Utara Malaysia is recognized for his distinguished leadership and service to the profession, with especially significant contributions to improving the welfare of fishing communities in the Global South.

We look forward to celebrating these achievements at IIFET 2026 Faroe Islands, where all three honorees will be featured as key speakers. Additional details will be shared in the coming months.

Please join us in congratulating Kuperan, Madan, and Tony on these well-deserved honors.
