Ground School and Sim Sessions grading and criteria
Ground School syllabus
•Intro to Aviation – Ground school providing an overview of the Private Pilot Knowledge and Experience areas - Ten classes, each approximately 45 minutes to an hour long
o Intro to Airplanes and aerodynamics
o Overview of Reciprocating engines, and turbine engines (if time allows)
o Intro to Instruments (Basic six-pack and overview of glass panels)
o Overview of Aeronautical Charts
o Navigation: Pilotage, Dead Reckoning, VORs, GPS
o Overview of Weight and Balance and Stability and Control
o Intro to Weather
o Air Traffic control, communications
o Flight Planning
Bringing it all together (Plan a cross country)
Flight Simulator Syllabus
I. Intro to and use of the Flight Simulator
A. Intro to the Flight Simulator 1 (Not graded)
B. Intro to the Flight Simulator 2 (Not graded)
1. Basic controls, engine start, taxing
2. Takeoff, straight and Level, climbs, turns, descents (pitch/power)
3. Overview and emphasis on instruments
4. Navigation
5. Maneuvers, stalls
6. Flying cross-country (Bring it all together - Fly the planned cross-country)
C. Fun Stuff – Aerobatics, Formation flying (Not graded)
The top grade (point earner) in the Cadet Program will win a Pilot starter kit, and a series (3 total) of aircraft “instructional” rides (time is not logable for FAA purposes). All other Cadets whose final score is 80% or better will receive one (1) instructional flight. All students who complete the course will receive the Pilot starter kit as well. The kit will include a Coyote Squadron Cadet flight bag, pilot log book, a Certificate of completion, a unique flight patch, and a Kore K1 (or equivalent) headset.
