🦚💚 Who doesn’t love peafowl?! I love that, as far as I know, we’re the only sanctuary in South Florida taking in peafowl for rehabilitation and sanctuary. How crazy is that?!
My expertise has always been waterfowl, so learning to rehabilitate peafowl has been a whole different ball game. These gorgeous birds are probably some of the most dangerous residents at Duck Issues! I’ve had plenty of close calls, and a few experiences have completely changed how I handle them. 😅
What I love most about peafowl is that they can be incredibly loving and trusting, but they can also be extremely dangerous if they aren’t respected and handled properly. They deserve that same respect as any other animal in our care.
Unfortunately, most of the peafowl we receive are from Miami and have been hit by cars. 💔 But this lovely lady has been making TREMENDOUS progress, and we’re so excited to hopefully move her outside next week! 🥹🦚
Rehab isn’t always easy, and sometimes learning to care for a new species means learning a whole new world of animal behavior. But every bird deserves a chance. 💚
