IDOLATRY LEADS TO CAPTIVITY | EZRA — WEEK 1

What we worship will eventually shape who we become.

This past Sunday, we began our new series through the book of Ezra by looking at the events that led God’s people into exile.

Israel’s greatest problem wasn’t their enemies. It was their idolatry.

And while we may not bow down to statues today, our hearts are still tempted to turn good things—money, success, relationships, comfort, and even our dreams—into ultimate things.

Whatever captures our worship will eventually capture our hearts. And whatever captures our hearts will begin to shape how we live. (2 Kings 17:15)

But here’s the good news: Israel’s unfaithfulness wasn’t the end of their story.

Even in their rebellion, God continued to pursue His people. And even after their exile, He remained faithful to His promises.

The same God who restored His people through Ezra is still in the business of pursuing hearts and restoring lives.

Through Jesus Christ, we can find forgiveness, freedom from our idols, and a new heart devoted to Him.

SUNDAY RECAP //

Ecclesiology | Wk. 3 | Saints, Shepherds, & Servants.

In Philippians 1:1, Paul reminds us that the church is made up of all God’s people, cared for by shepherds and served by faithful servants.

Jesus didn’t save us to sit in the stands and watch other people do ministry. He saved us, gifted us, and placed us in his church to get in the game.

The church is not a spectator sport. Jesus calls us to be followers, not fans—and everyone has a role to play.

You don’t have to play someone else’s part. You just need to faithfully play yours.

Let’s live devoted to Jesus together.

Ecclesiology | Wk. 2 | Temple & Tables

Yesterday we continued our ECCLESIOLOGY series by looking at the rhythm of the early church:

They gathered in the Temple.
They gathered around tables.

“Every day they devoted themselves to meeting together in the temple, and broke bread from house to house. They ate their food with joyful and sincere hearts.” — Acts 2:46 (CSB)

The early church gathered together in larger spaces for teaching, worship, and prayer—and they gathered from house to house for meals, fellowship, discipleship, and mission.

It wasn’t Temple OR Table.
It was Temple AND Table.

We believe God is calling Devoted Church to recover this biblical rhythm: one church gathering together on Sundays and in homes throughout our community.

The Church is not simply a gathering we attend.
It’s a family we belong to and a mission we live.

Today, we kicked off a new vision series for our church: ECCLESIOLOGY—the study of the Church.

In our first message, “Storm the Gates,” we discovered five foundational truths:

1. The Church is Built on Jesus
2. The Church is Built by Jesus
3. The Church Belongs to Jesus
4. The Church is Not a Building
5. The Church is Jesus’ Battle Plan

The Church is not a building to attend but a people to belong to.

Together, we will advance the gospel, multiply disciples, plant churches—all for the glory of God.
