Leave the leaves this fall! When you let fallen leaves stay on the ground, they create a natural blanket that protects soil from erosion, keeps moisture in, and breaks down over time to return valuable nutrients back to the soil. A little leaf litter goes a long way for healthier gardens, stronger ecosystems, and happier pollinators.

Let nature do the work. Rake the leaves to your garden to help it thrive this winter!

We were glad to help Patriots Elementary with their 5th grade field trip today! 🌱💧 Students explored the Web of Life (A North Carolina Project Learning Tree lesson) and learned how everything in nature is connected — soil, water, plants, animals, and us.

We love supporting hands-on learning in Cabarrus County schools!

Creek Week 2026 was an absolute splash — and our Creek Week Festival made it even better! 💚🌊

Thank you to everyone who came out to celebrate our waterways, learn something new, and have some eco‑friendly fun with us!

Here are some of our favorite moments from this year’s Creek Week & Festival:
🧤 Creek Cleanups — Volunteers helped remove trash from local streams, making an immediate impact on water quality and wildlife health.
🎨 Upcycle Art Crafts — Families and kids got creative by transforming recyclables into conservation‑themed masterpieces.
🐟 Festival Fun — Interactive booths, watershed models, educational games, and hands‑on aquatic critter explorations brought environmental science to life!
💦 Community Connections — We loved seeing so many partners, students, and families come together to celebrate clean water and stewardship.

Thank you, Cabarrus County, for showing up to protect our creeks AND have fun doing it. Let’s keep the current going all year long! 🌎💙

The N.C. Agricultural Development and Farmland Preservation Trust Fund has awarded $51.2 million in grants to help protect working farms and forests and support North Carolina’s agricultural economy.

Grants were awarded to farms and projects in Alamance, Anson, Avery, Bladen, Brunswick, Cabarrus, Camden, Chatham, Cherokee, Clay, Cleveland, Columbus, Craven, Cumberland, Currituck, Davie, Duplin, Franklin, Guilford, Harnett, Haywood, Iredell, Johnston, Lee, Lincoln, Macon, Madison, Martin, Mitchell, Onslow, Orange, Person, Randolph, Rockingham, Rowan, Rutherford, Surry, Transylvania, Tyrrell, Union, Wake, Watauga, Wayne and Wilkes counties. Happy First Day of Fall from Cabarrus Soil and Water! 🍁

The season of crunchy leaves, cozy sweaters, and pumpkin‑everything is here — and we’re excited to see what this year’s fall harvest will bring!

It’s also a perfect time to give your soil a little extra TLC. Healthy soil = healthy crops, happy gardens, and stronger conservation across Cabarrus County.

Yesterday, Cabarrus Soil and Water had a great time visiting Patriot STEM Elementary! Abby Weinshenker, our Resource Education Coordinator, taught first graders all about soils. Students explored soil particle sizes, learned how rainfall affects soils, discovered the layers beneath our feet, and even got hands-on with a soil sensory bin. We loved seeing their curiosity grow as they dug into the world of soil!
