The Basics of Home Canning - a hands-on workshop will include canning safety, types of equipment and proper canning methods. Participants will experience operating a water bath canner and a pressure canner to prepare both jelly and green beans and will receive a copy of The Ball Blue Book Guide to Preserving. This class is designed for beginners, but would be helpful to thoses that want to oupdate their knowledge. Particippants may bring their pressure canner dial gauges for testing during the workshop. Snack will be provided. Classes will meet in the North Carolina Cooperative Extension Cabarrus County Center, 715 Cabarrus Avenue West, Concord, NC 28027, Pre-registration and pre-payment is required. Maximum of 8 per workshop. Cost per person is $20.00.

ECA Achievement Day is Saturday, February 23, 2019. If you are planning to attend, payment of 12.00 must be received by Treasurer, Joyce Kluttz, no later than Thursday, February 14, 2019.

March 26, 2019 is an area meeting entitled, “I am Safe...Aren’t I.” Sheriff Van Shaw will be our speaker at 12:00 noon. A lite lunch will be served at 11:15 am.

Congratulations to Hiatt Durham the winner of the Cabarrus County ECA Scholarship and to Ethan Wickliff the winner of the South Central District ECA Scholarship. Both of these young people are well deserving of these scholarships.

It is almost Fair time. If you have an item to enter in the fair, you must fill out the entry form and enter by August 22 at noon. Items may then be entered in the fair on September 4, 2:00p.m - 7:00p.m. and September 5, 3:00pm - 7:00pm.
Entry pick up will be September 15, 2:00pm - 5:00pm
The Cabarrus County Fair will be open September 7-15, 2018.

You are invited to join Rimer ECA Club's 100th Anniversay on November 3, 2018 at Cross of Christ Lutheran Church from 2:00pm - 4:00pm.

Our Community Connections Issues Committee is again collecting items for the Veterans. T-shirts, socks and toiletries are needed for men and women. The items need to be brought to the Cabarrus Cooperative Extension Office by November 1, 2018.

Cabarrus ECA is sponsoring two holiday trips.

If you go on both trips, you will receivea $15 rebate. Both escorted, fun-filled trips will depart 8am and return (beach 8:30pm; Western NC 6:45pm) to the NC Cooperatove Extension, Cabarrus County Center, 715 Cabarrus Ave W, Concord, NC 28027. Cook Smart/Eat Smart is our popular hands-on cooking class and is back by popular demand. This workshop will be offered Thursday evenings, October 12, 19, 26, and November 2, 2017, from 6:00pm to 8:30pm in our Extension Kitchen. Learn over 25 cooking techniques to make meal planning tasty, easy and nutritious. Participants will receive a cookbook, and prepare dinner at each session. Attend all 4 sessions and earn a grocery store gift card. This program is co-sponsored by Cabarrus Family and Consumer Science and Cabarrus Extension and Community Association. Cost is $50.00. "A Cheese(y) Holiday Affair" will be offered on Tuesday, October 24 at both 12 noon and 6:30 pm. Food Associates from NCCSU will be joining us to present this holiday program. They will demonstrate holiday appetizers using a variety of cheeses. Recipes will be included and a holiday punch will be served! Special exhibits and holiday decorations will be included in this festive event. Local merchants and friends of Cabarrus ECA will be providing door prizes! Preregistration is preferred. Walk-in registration will be available the day of the program if space remains. Cost is $3.00 per person.
