Today, we recognize Juneteenth and reflect on the enduring importance of freedom, opportunity, and civic participation in America.

Juneteenth commemorates June 19, 1865, when enslaved people in Galveston, Texas, finally learned of their freedom more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation. It is both a celebration of liberation and a reminder that the work of building stronger, more just communities continues in every generation.

The National Grange believes that strong communities are built when neighbors come together in service, respect, and shared purpose. Today, we honor the significance of Juneteenth and the ongoing pursuit of opportunity and dignity for all Americans.
